New Thanksgiving Tradition
A New Thanksgiving Tradition
Contact: Paul E

Let's start a new Thanksgiving Tradition, celebrating together differently.

I am putting together a music video for church and would like contributions from the entire congregation. The choir will be providing the singing parts. If you watch this video (Grateful), you'll see that singing is only a small part of this project.
If you're interested, you can contribute a video of...

1. Dancing (solo, duet, trio, quartets, pets, family, friends, etc.
2. General goofiness
3. Signing - hearts, gratitude, love, happiness (see the video)
4. Lip-sync singing - YES, you can pretend to be singing in this video
5. Rapping - real or lip-sync'd
This is EASY and hopefully FUN and I encourage everyone to send me something, even if it's just a few seconds. Please contact Paul E if you plan on contributing. Deadline for contributions is 11/23. Thanks!

Dear Beluvs ...

On behalf of myself and the PrairieUU staff, we wish you a happy holiday season. This year the holidays come with many blessings and also heartache for many across our community, across the country, and around the world on a variety of levels. We are dealing with the pandemic and the inability to be with our families as we live our values and social distance in accordance with our covenant to be connected with and take care of each other, as we heed both governmental and more importantly, health guidelines. It seems that everyday I hear from someone that they have a family member infected with or exposed to COVID-19. I want to let you know that I am and we are here for you. As we move deeper into the cold of fall and winter, know that you sit in the warmth of my heart and the heart of this community. We are a community where no one walks alone. If you need anything from me, the Caring Circle or others in leadership please let us know.

I would also like to remind you that as we enter this week of Thanksgiving, that we remember that this is a holiday week that brings with it great pain to our Native American siblings. I invite you to watch these videos about the Doctrine of Discovery and Manifest Destiny to learn more.

Finally, I want to let you know that I am going to be “off the clock” between now and December 6th. I will be available for pastoral care and other personal concerns you may have but my meeting schedule will be very limited.

In Service,

From the Board...

Greetings and Best Wishes for a time of Thankfulness, Gratitude and Hope:

The business of our community continues despite the many election challenges around us, the worsening Covid-19 infection rate and the demands of our personal lives. Thanks to those who planned a Party that we needed and a successful Auction outcome with more financial success than the Board thought reasonable given the pandemic challenges. You get a group of Prairie UU's together and they will make it work!

The agenda for the November 18, 2020 Board included final approval of the Nominations Committee policies and procedures, a beginning list of a dream budget for 2021/2022, suggestions for a group or leader to provide advice and evolving information about how to keep our community safe. The Finance Committee is leading the efforts to find new ways to fundraise that are easy and effective. Send your suggestions to Clark Huff.

At the October meeting the Board approved a role for Board Liaisons to the Standing Committees. I will send each standing committee chairperson/s a copy in the near future. Our goal is to inform the Board of the work of the committees and for the Board to provide support and assistance as needed by the Committees leadership.

Our finances continue to be steady for 2020/2021 so thank you for your generous gifts and pledges.

In covenant,

Vivian Littlefield, President, Board of Trustees

Board Liaison to the Nominations Committee
Contact: Vivian L

The Board is recruiting an individual to serve as a Board appointed advisor to the Nominations Committee. Our work with the COSM to create a more inclusive, diverse slate of nominees for Congregational Elections has led the Prairie UU leadership to recognize the need for an individual with experience and understanding of how bias can influence our choices and prevent a wider representation of diversity in our Prairie UU leadership. If you or someone you know is interested in serving in this role, please let Vivian Littlefield, President of the Board of Trustees know. The position should begin in time for our nomination process in March 2021.

The Board is seeking an individual or three individuals to serve as Advisors to our Prairie UU Community on Safety in three areas:

  Pandemic Safety
  Personal and Cyber Safety
  Sexual Misconduct

The role/roles as currently envisioned is that the Advisor/s would search the local, state and national information sources for evolving information, review the UUA resources in these areas and provide regular, timely information to the congregation and the church leaders. The specific role and activities can be proposed by the individual/s who assume the role/s. If you are interested in serving in this important position/s, contact Vivian Littlefield, President Board of Trustees.
Mountain Desert District Board
Contact: Mary Nordhagen

Do you wish you could serve our Unitarian Universalist faith and effect change on a deeper level?
Would you like to help shape our Unitarian Universalist faith for the future?
If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, then you just may be the person
we are looking for to serve on the Mountain Desert District Board!
The Mountain Desert District Board currently has the following positions available:
Vice President
Trustee, At-Large
Wondering if you are a good fit to serve as a board member?
Take a look at the benefits of serving:
You will make connections with so many people and congregations across the district and beyond
You will have a larger sense of the association of congregations of which we are a part
Serving on a district board provides the experience you may need to serve on a larger board
(former district board members have then gone on to serve on the UUA board)
You will be a part of something larger than yourself, as a vibrant member, helping to shape our UU faith for the future
Still not sure?
Come check us out. You are welcome to attend a board meeting on the 2nd Mondays at 7pm MT to see if this type of service is right for you.

We will be discussing what each of us may have learned as a result of some of the more difficult times we've experienced in our lives. Some of us have experienced a job loss, loss of a loved one, relationship issues, such as divorce...perhaps life-threatening accidents, illnesses...both physical or emotional. What 'positives' came out of these 'negative' experiences? We will have a short discussion after each story.

Please join us on Wednesday, December 2 to view: The Santa Clause

Divorcé Scott Calvin is disgusted to learn that his ex and her husband have tried - and failed - to break it easy to their 6-year-old son Charlie that Santa isn't real. On Christmas Eve, Scott reads The Night Before Christmas - then receives an unexpected visitor on his roof. When he's startled by Scott's calling out and falls, the Santa impersonator disappears, leaving only an 8-reindeer sleigh and a suit with instructions to put it on if he's involved in an accident. Scott does, and is transported around the town dropping gifts through chimneys until he's taken to the North Pole and informed by a group, who claim they're elves, that he is now Santa. Charlie is proud of his dad's new job, though Scott's convinced it's a dream. Until his hair turns white, his beard refuses to stay shaved, he gains weight inexplicably, even for his sudden love of junk food - Now he's accepted it, there's just one problem: how to keep it secret from his disbelieving family?
