A New PrairieUU Tradition

A New PrairieUU Tradition
Contact: Paul E

Let's start a new PrairieUU Tradition, celebrating together differently.

I am putting together a music video for church and would like contributions from the entire congregation. The choir will be providing the singing parts. If you watch this video (Grateful), you'll see that singing is only a small part of this project.
If you're interested, you can contribute a video of...

1. Dancing (solo, duet, trio, quartets, pets, family, friends, etc.
2. General goofiness
3. Signing - hearts, gratitude, love, happiness (see the video)
4. Lip-sync singing - YES, you can pretend to be singing in this video
5. Rapping - real or lip-sync'd
This is EASY and hopefully FUN and I encourage everyone to send me something, even if it's just a few seconds.

Please contact Paul E if you plan on contributing. Deadline for contributions is Friday, December 11. Thanks!

Sunday Worship - The Christmas Story

Sunday, December 13th, 10:30 am
Contact: Pastor AJ
The Christmas Story, the birth of Jesus, is meant as a story of hope and light for all humankind. Our tradition for 20+ years is to have a live pageant exploring this story. As we are in this time of social distancing and safekeeping, we will have this service slightly different in a virtual manner. I invite everyone to join us in making this service special – see the instructionsHERE

Please join us on December 13th for our Christmas Story worship service filled with familiar faces and wonderful music.

Join us for Conversation:
Beginning at 10:15 via Google Meet . This will be our space to chat and socialize before and during the service. We will also share Candles of Community immediately following the service in this same meet.

From the Board ...

It's December! Let's bring our Thanksgiving gratitude of hope for a healing and healthy 2021!

Update on Board Activities:

Revised Nomination Policy and Procedures: The Board recommended more work on the revised policies developed with revisions from the COSM and Board members. The COSM is now working another draft for Board approval in December. We hope to introduce the new policy and procedures at the January 31, 2021 Congregational Meeting.

Prairie UU Handbooks: There are 5 in development or revision. The Board's goal is to have written policies, procedures, and clear job descriptions for all leadership and committee positions. These will be in one place, on our Google documents and accessible to the members and visitors. If you are interested in helping let me know. We will be seeking advice from those of you who have leadership roles. Watch for an email from me to provide input to your and your committee's role and responsibility.

Board Liaisons: The Board has defined the role of Board Liaisons to Standing Committees. The Liaison position is identified in the Bylaws, but needed definitions and responsibility. Committee Chairs should watch for this description soon. The Liaison position is designed to be supportive of each committee's work and to keep the Board informed of Committee's needs and activities.

January 31, 2021 Congregational Meeting: Mark your calendar and send suggestions for agenda items to me. The Congregational meeting will take place after the Sunday Service.

President Board of Trustees

Annual Pageant Service

Hello Prairie & Friends.

This year, we will have our annual Pageant service in a slightly different way….it’s in keeping with our virtual services we’ve been having since March. This service is scheduled for December 13th. We still want this to be a community involved event so it means getting your wonderful faces and voices recorded. I have outlined the areas we’d like input and stories. And you have options:

  • Record your favorite memory about the Christmas story
  • Record what parts of the Christmas story mean to your or have mesmerized you
  • You can share art in the video
  • You can share your thoughts along with your family

Once you have recorded your message or story (1-5 minutes in length), please send back to me or save here:

Please send me a note that describes which section your feel your video fits by the number listed below.

  1. The overall story of Jesus’ birth about beginnings and renewed possibility
  2. Hope and Light for all humankind
  3. How Prairie and your service bring hope and light to others (work with Bridge House, Habitat for Humanity, Parker Task Force, MUUved to Action, and other events)
  4. our favorite characters in the story (relate to, adore, think about, like the sound, etc.)
  • The STAR
  • Wise Men
  • Angel Gabriel
  • Mary and Joseph
  • Animals: camel, donkey, cow, sheep, doves
  • Jesus – birth in the manger

Our service will be more magical, the more people participate. Please send your video by December 8th to Susan E.

As is our tradition, PrairieUU is adopting a family in our community that is in need of support this holiday season. This year we help a family of 7 with close ties to our community. Please sign up here to purchase and wrap a gift or make arrangements for someone else to do the shopping and/or wrapping for you. You may drop off gifts at our Open Space (Twenty Mile Rd/Ponderosa Dr) on Sunday, December 13 between 7:30-9:00am, or contact Kim (720) 636-1912 or Melissa (720) 471-0853 to arrange a pick-up. DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION ADVOCATE
Board Liaison to the Nominations Committee
Contact: Vivian L

The Board is recruiting an individual to serve as a Board appointed advisor to the Nominations Committee. Our work with the COSM to create a more inclusive, diverse slate of nominees for Congregational Elections has led the Prairie UU leadership to recognize the need for an individual with experience and understanding of how bias can influence our choices and prevent a wider representation of diversity in our Prairie UU leadership. If you or someone you know is interested in serving in this role, please let Vivian Littlefield, President of the Board of Trustees know. The position should begin in time for our nomination process in March 2021.
COMMUNITY SAFETY ADVISOR/S
Contact: Vivian L

The Board is seeking an individual or three individuals to serve as Advisors to our Prairie UU Community on Safety in three areas:

  Pandemic Safety
  Personal and Cyber Safety
  Sexual Misconduct

The role/roles as currently envisioned is that the Advisor/s would search the local, state and national information sources for evolving information, review the UUA resources in these areas and provide regular, timely information to the congregation and the church leaders. The specific role and activities can be proposed by the individual/s who assume the role/s. If you are interested in serving in this important position/s, contact Vivian Littlefield, President Board of Trustees.
