Statutory AB 1825 Training Workshop: Preventing Harassment, Violence, and Discrimination in the Workplace
The Employer Advisory Council (EAC) of Alameda County and the Employment Development Department (EDD) want to support you and your company with virtual educational opportunities. Join this second webinar of The Employment Life Cycle (TELC) series to hear from employment law attorney and human resources specialist Aaron Cargain of the law firm Fisher Phillips about approaches to the prevention of harassment, violence, and discrimination at the workplace.
This second webinar of the educational series TELC focuses on the highly litigation-prone area of misconduct at the workplace that include sexual and other harassment, violence, and discriminatory practices and behavior. Assembly Bill (AB) 1825 requires that all California employers with five or more employees provide at least two hours of harassment-prevention training to all supervisory employees. Fisher Phillips' harassment prevention training is a high-caliber workshop to provide the best mandatory AB1825 qualifications for supervisory staff. This workshop teaches essential management skills while discussing the legally required harassment related topics. This comprehensive training will also cover an explanation of protected categories, address Senate Bill (SB) 396 requirements, types of harassment and bullying, responsibility of supervisors and companies, on how to conduct an investigation, and best practices.

Lafayette Outdoor Retail Sales and Dining Pilot Program Extended through 2022
As part of our pandemic response, in 2020, the City launched its outdoor retail sales and dining program and relaxed certain sign ordinance and parking requirements. For the past few months, Staff has worked with businesses and community members to develop a proposal for the continuation of this program for at least a year to allow the businesses to catch up to pre-pandemic sales.
In January, the City Council approved $200,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (“ARPA) funds to initiate and implement a one-year pilot program which extends the current arrangements that allow outdoor sales and dining. The program includes:
- Allowing restaurants to use on-street parking for dining, sidewalks for dining and retail sales as long as there is adequate space for pedestrian travel, and the use of private parking lots for outdoor sales and dining.
- Continuing the current relaxations of the sign and parking ordinances to allow A-frame signs and banners.
- Designing an outdoor retail sales and dining template to define and designate the uses for parking spaces, sidewalks and other public areas.
- Identifying additional spaces in Lafayette for outdoor dining and retail sales to expand the program into other commercial areas of the city.
Restaurants and other retail establishments will be encouraged to use the template. Spaces approved for use through this program will need to meet all requirements set by the Fire Department. Additionally, a no-fee encroachment permit will be required to ensure that all safety requirements are met.
If your retail establishment or restaurant has an interest in participating in this pilot program, please contact Thomas Myers, Economic Development Manager through email at tmyers@ci.lafayette.ca.us or by telephone at 925-299-3257. Please indicate the name and location of your business, as well as how your business would like to participate in this pilot program.

City Increasing Funding for Shop Local Lafayette eCard Program
The Shop Local Lafayette eCard Pilot Program is an electronic gift card program supported by Yiftee.com, designed to support local Lafayette brick-and-mortar businesses during the business recovery period. You can use the eCard at all participating Lafayette businesses – there is truly something for everyone.
The Lafayette City Council recently approved an additional $20,000 in federal American Rescue Plan Act (“ARPA”) funds for the Program, bringing the total to $50,000. With these funds, the City is offering a “Twice as Nice” bonus eCard offer: For a limited time, customers who purchase a Shop Local Lafayette eCard will receive double the value to spend at participating businesses in Lafayette. For example, when you purchase a $10 eCard, the City will match your purchase and you will receive a bonus $10 eCard, giving you $20 to spend at participating Lafayette businesses. The bonus eCard offer will only be available for a limited time and is limited to two (2) bonus eCards per purchaser. Note: Bonus eCards are only valid for ninety (90) days from the date of purchase.
Business participation can change at any time and is limited to $5,000 in eCard sales per business. This limit is to allow the program to benefit more local businesses equitably. New businesses are in the process of be added to the program! Here is a list of currently participating businesses:
As of April 5, 2022, the following businesses are approaching their $5,000 per business limit:
- Lafayette Park Hotel and Spa - approximately $2,250 in eCards already redeemed
- Locanda Positano - approximately $2,000 in eCards already redeemed
- REVE Bistro - approximately $1,500 in eCards already redeemed
We have received a number of questions about the eCards and updated the FAQ on our website. One common question is about the processing time for the eCards. The eCards are digital - there are no plastic cards available, however, you can print it on a piece of paper. Ecard orders can take one hour or more for the system to process, so they may not be available for immediate use. Sometimes our partner, Yiftee, needs time to ensure an order is correct. If your order hasn't been processed, Yiftee suggests checking your email inbox as well as your spam folder to see if they have sent a request for additional information. For full details and to purchase eCards, visit www.lovelafayette.com/eCard.
