Jan. 18 Update on Vaccine Rollout
Monday, Jan. 18

Today was the first day of pre-screening and registration for those eligible in the expanded Phase 1b group (age 65-74 or who have a high-risk medical condition). Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties experienced by an IT vendor, the registration form was down for most of the morning. As a result, the Vaccine Hotline received thousands of calls and was overwhelmed. While this issue was unforeseen, it is still not acceptable. I share your frustration and have been in contact with the county's Health and IT departments. We need to do better.

The good news is that the form is now available. While the vaccine hotline is open today, they are experiencing heavy call volume. The online form is recommended.

  • Call the Health Department’s vaccine hotline at (703) 324-7404 (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

A reminder that there are two steps to the registration process:
  1. You must be pre-screened either through the online form or by phone to ensure that your are eligible at this time to receive the vaccine.
  2. The Health Department will email you to schedule an appointment. You will be able to choose a day, time and location for your vaccine. Learn more about the registration process.

More than 40 percent of our large county population is now eligible to be vaccinated and our ability to vaccinate is entirely dependent on vaccine being sent to the county. The demand for the vaccine is great – just since this morning we have had more than 33,000 new registrations. There is a very limited supply of vaccine from the Virginia Department of Health and the county is constantly working to get more. This process will take months, not days. As you may have seen in the media, this is a challenge being felt across the country, as well as by our local jurisdictions.

I will continue to keep you updated as we go through this enormous task of vaccinating our residents, in Hunter Mill District and countywide. If you know friends or neighbors who need these updates, please have them email huntermill@fairfaxcounty.gov and we will get them on the list.
