Leading Flexible Teams
Thursday, April 7, 6pm-9pm, Lafayette Veterans Hall, 3780 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Lafayette
Entrepreneur event, all business owners are welcome to attend!
If one thing is clear from the past two years, it is that the way we work has changed. The era of toiling from nine-to-five, five-days-a-week in the office is now a relic of the past, and is being replaced by a better way—flexible work. But we now know that “flexible work” is more than a day or two a week to “work from home”: 93% of employees want more flexibility in when, not just where, they work—and many are leaving their roles to find it.
The most successful leaders will go much further than offering occasional remote workdays—they will redesign every aspect of how work gets done, from defining how they measure organizational success to training their managers to make it happen.
Brian Elliott from Slack and Future Forum (a consortium by Slack) will talk about the blueprint for using flexible work to unlock the potential of your people. The book he co-authored - HOW THE FUTURE WORKS - offers the steps necessary to build new principles and guardrails to empower flexible, high-performing teams, lead with purpose, manage and measure differently and let go to get more back. With original research from Future Forum and global case studies from leading companies such as Levi Strauss & Co., Genentech, Royal Bank of Canada, and IBM, HOW THE FUTURE WORKS offers concrete solutions and practical steps for building high functioning teams of talented, engaged people by finally providing them with the flexibility and choice they need to do their best work.

Statutory AB 1825 Training Workshop: Preventing Harassment, Violence, and Discrimination in the Workplace
The Employer Advisory Council (EAC) of Alameda County and the Employment Development Department (EDD) want to support you and your company with virtual educational opportunities. Join this second webinar of The Employment Life Cycle (TELC) series to hear from employment law attorney and human resources specialist Aaron Cargain of the law firm Fisher Phillips about approaches to the prevention of harassment, violence, and discrimination at the workplace.
This second webinar of the educational series TELC focuses on the highly litigation-prone area of misconduct at the workplace that include sexual and other harassment, violence, and discriminatory practices and behavior. Assembly Bill (AB) 1825 requires that all California employers with five or more employees provide at least two hours of harassment-prevention training to all supervisory employees. Fisher Phillips' harassment prevention training is a high-caliber workshop to provide the best mandatory AB1825 qualifications for supervisory staff. This workshop teaches essential management skills while discussing the legally required harassment related topics. This comprehensive training will also cover an explanation of protected categories, address Senate Bill (SB) 396 requirements, types of harassment and bullying, responsibility of supervisors and companies, on how to conduct an investigation, and best practices.

Community Encouraged to Support Local Businesses Through City of Lafayette’s New Shop Local Lafayette eCard Program
Post Date: 03/09/2022 5:55 PM City of Lafayette
To support local brick-and-mortar businesses that have experienced economic uncertainty as a result of the pandemic, the City of Lafayette has launched the Shop Local Lafayette eCard Program.
“When you shop local, you are supporting local business owners and helping to keep the Lafayette business community unique, helping local workers keep their jobs, and also helping the overall community because a portion of the sales tax collected on purchases comes back to our community to pay for police, safety, road repairs and such,” explained Administrative Services Director, Tracy Robinson, who oversees economic development for the City of Lafayette.
The eCard program is in partnership with Yiftee, and is offered at no cost to participating businesses. For a limited time, anyone who purchases a Shop Local Lafayette eCard will receive double the value to spend at participating businesses in Lafayette. The City hopes this incentive will encourage customers to shop, dine or receive services in Lafayette, while generating more sales for local businesses. The City’s “Twice as Nice” bonus card offer is only available for a limited time, and there is a limit of two bonus cards per purchaser. For full details and to purchase eCards, visit www.lovelafayette.com/eCard.
Currently, Shop Local Lafayette eCards can be redeemed at the following participating Lafayette businesses:
One Stop Shoe Care (3622 Mt Diablo Blvd)
The list of participating businesses is subject to change at any time.
Become a Participating Business: Sign up now to express interest in the program!
-
Fill out this interest form ASAP with your business and contact info.
- We’ll review the information. If selected to participate, we will follow up with instructions on how to set up the Shop Local Lafayette for your business. (Only a limited number of businesses will be accepted into this pilot program.)
We highly encourage you to fill out the interest form to receive more information. If you have specific questions, you can always reach out to the City of Lafayette by email.
It’s easy to purchase a Lafayette Shop Local eCard. Simply go to https://app.yiftee.com/gift-card/lafayette--ca and select the value of your card ($10, $25, $50 or $100). Then, choose your recipient (yourself, family or friends) and send the eCard via email or text message. The recipient can use the eCard to make purchases at any participating Lafayette businesses. And, for a limited time, when you purchase a Shop Local Lafayette eCard, will receive double the value to spend locally! When you purchase a $50 card, the City will match your purchase and you will receive a bonus $50 card, giving you more to spend at participating businesses. Limit of two bonus cards per purchaser. Help White Pony Express gather medical supplies, food, and clothing for refugees fleeing Ukrainian crisis
Bay Area nonprofit White Pony Express (WPE) invites help in collecting medical supplies, non-perishable food items, and new high-quality clothing to aid the more than one million civilians who have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion. The United Nations estimates the refugee figure could reach as high as four million people.
WPE is a food and goods rescue organization with a mission to eliminate hunger and poverty by distributing their area's abundance to those in need. Eve Birge, WPE's executive director says, “Our work is to give all we can, in all the ways we can, to all the people we can. With the support of our community, we can provide essential items for our friends from Ukraine who are in desperate need. There is enough abundance in our county to make a significant contribution to this effort. Our organization was built to gather this abundance and distribute it.”
Food Donations
If you have a non-perishable food donation, you are welcome to drop it off at WPE’s distribution center at 3380 Vincent Rd #107, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, seven-days-a-week, between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm - No appointment is necessary.
Medical Supplies, OTC Medications, New Clothing, Shoes, and Toiletries
To schedule an appointment to drop off medical supplies, clothing and other goods, please email GSOP@whiteponyexpress.org or call Steve at 925-322-0604 x113.
Volunteers Needed
WPE welcomes new volunteers to help host food and clothing drives, raise funds to purchase boxes and pay for shipping, and help sort, package, and label boxes. Executive direct Birge states, "At WPE, the careful way our volunteers handle, pack, and deliver items is important as it conveys our respect and love for those we serve. If ever there was a time these refugees need to feel loved, respected, and cared for, this is it."

Humanitarian Aid to the People of Ukraine and the Millions of Refugees Who Have Escaped
If you are wondering how you can get involved and help at this time, here are some great links to get started:
As one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations, Rotary has made peace the cornerstone of our global mission. We are deeply concerned about the Ukraine crisis and need your help.
Rotary is made up of people of action, especially in difficult times. In response to the deepening refugee crisis, The Rotary Foundation Trustees have decided to prioritize contributions made to the Disaster Response Fund until 30 April 2022 to support disaster response grants for districts affected by these events. These expedited disaster response grants can be used to supply water, food, medicine, shelter, and clothing.
Half a million people have fled Ukraine and are in dire need of emergency aid. The United Nations estimates that number of refugees could grow to as many as 5 million people displaced. Rotary clubs in Europe and around the world have stepped up their relief work, some working on the ground to help displaced families.
With your donation to our Disaster Response Fund, we can support communities and help rebuild lives during this tragic time. Click HERE to donate now.
