The Sales Tax Rate in Lafayette will Increase on April 1st
Here’s what business owners/managers need to know:
Starting April 1, 2025, businesses in Lafayette will need to start collecting the new ½₵ transactions (sales) and use tax on taxable items.
Look for a notice from the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) regarding this rate change.
The City has compiled resources for businesses at www.LoveLafayette.org/MeasureH including a map to see if your business address is within the Lafayette city limits (not the same as Lafayette’s zip code!), links to the rate lookup tool, and how to contact the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) if you have any questions.

Bay Area Council
The results are in for February’s survey: https://public.flourish.studio/story/2970454
As a reminder, the last time the RTO survey was conducted was in May 2024, and several major employers have announced plans to increase in-person work since then. In the most recent round of the survey, while the majority of employers are still saying that they have fully implemented their long-term policies for in-person and remote work, we are also seeing that the Bay Area as a place of work is still evolving, and we continue to see slow, but gradual trends toward more in-person work. Five years after our initial pandemic shutdowns, in-person work policies in the Bay Area are still changing (nearly 40% of respondents said they made changes in the past six months) and will continue to shift in the next six months to a year (an additional 20%). The frequency Bay Area workforces are coming into the office five days, or more is ten percent higher than this time last year. Additionally, when asked what days of the week employees are coming into the office, every day of the week saw increased attendance as compared to this time last year, with the highest percentage changes on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Other noteworthy highlights from this round of the survey:
- The percentage of the workforce that employers believe are taking transit at least some of the time to the office has held firm since this time last year, coming in at 46.4% in the February 2025 survey
- The amount of time it takes to commute (73%) and preference for working at home (71%) continue to be the main reasons why employees do not come to the office more frequently
- The vast majority of employers, 93%, believe their current workplace policy is effective at achieving the in-person attendance they request or require
While we don’t expect future iterations of the Return to Office survey in the near future, we are developing a final report that summarizes all key data collected between April 2021 and February 2025 to be released in early May. We will share this report with you when it’s ready.

Lafayette Plaza Temporary Closure for Annual Maintenance
Weather permitting, Lafayette Plaza will be closed on Monday, March 31, for essential annual maintenance conducted by City of Lafayette Public Works. During this time, the lawn will be off-limits for approximately two weeks, with a planned reopening on Friday, April 11.
However, if rain delays work on March 31, maintenance will be rescheduled for the next available dry day between April 1 and April 4. In this case, the lawn may remain closed until Thursday, April 17.
Closure notices will reflect the March 31–April 17 timeframe out of caution, but they are optimistic that work can proceed as planned for an earlier reopening. They appreciate your understanding as we prepare Lafayette Plaza for the busy spring and summer event season. Thank you for your patience and cooperation!
