LAUNCH OUT INTO THE DEEP
There comes a time in each of our lives that we are required to go beyond the usual mundane way we have done things. We are stretched to our limits, yet it isn’t enough. We are pushed in and pressed down. We have done our all yet produced nothing but failure.
It is at this point that God will take over if we allow him. It is when we give up, and give in, that it allows Him to be the one in control.
Peter had fished all night (Luke 5:5) He was an expert at his trade, just like many of you are experts in what you do. He had worked all night fishing. He had tried his best, yet he hadn’t caught a single fish. He was tired. He was ready for a rest. Then the master spoke in Luke 5:4, “….Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught (a catch).”
Most of us would have questioned Jesus’ plan just like Peter. In vs. 5 Peter answered Jesus with “Master, we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing…” When we have given our all, when we have pushed to the extreme, we are tired and ready to give up when there has been no “catch.” We feel we have failed, why bother. Yet, the Master of our souls is ready to take us to victory. So often we do not yield to his voice, and just give in to our circumstances. How little we know at that time that there was victory so close.
Nevertheless, Peter said, “at thy word I will let down the “net.” Net, Peter? Didn’t I say nets? He was told to let down his nets. Now Peter had a little confidence in what the Master said, but not full assurance that Jesus knew what he was saying. After all, Peter was the expert, right? He knew how to fish. He knew when to fish. He knew where to fish. Yet, Peter had no results. “Yes, I will let down a net Lord. I know it won’t work, because I am the expert, but just to make you feel good about me, I will give it a “little” try.”
How often I have been the same as Peter. I have tried and tried, and it didn’t work. Then a little prompting from the Lord, and I trusted a little. Trusting little brings broken nets just like it did for Peter. “Oh, ye of little faith”, the Lord would say to me.
Have you been where Peter was? Have you tried and failed? DO NOT GIVE UP!! Jesus has victory planned for you. Yes, it will cause you to stretch your faith. Yes, it will require you to go the extra mile. Yes, it will take total trust. Yes, it will bring you victory.
So, at the Lord’s word, launch out into the deep. Jesus has overflow in store for you just like he had for Peter. Have a blessed day.
