WORLD PARTY DAY
World Party Day on April 3rd encourages a coordinated effort of joyful human celebration around the globe.
The world gathers to celebrate for many reasons. Forming a party often includes food, beverages, music, games, and other festivities. Hosts often create a theme or the theme generates the party. Several common modern-day party themes include bachelor and bachelorette, birthday, retirement, anniversary, graduation and welcome home. Many other party themes focus on specific foods.
In our modern world, parties can also be virtual. We don’t always have to gather in the same location to celebrate a specific event or day. Technology brings us together through video and the internet allowing us to connect long-distance and celebrate all our favorite ways.
The novel Flight: A Quantum Fiction Novel, by Vanna Bonta published in 1995, which concludes with a synchronized worldwide celebration that occurs on April 3, 2000, is the inspiration for World Party Day. Gatherings can be small or large organized festivals.

Winning not one, but two fan voted awards was more than I ever could’ve imagined! Y’all are why I do what I do and I can’t thank you enough. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I have the best most supportive fans. Thank y’all…for everything
Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser
I wanted to take a moment to congratulate Louisiana's very own Lainey Wilson on her big wins at the CMT awards tonight!
My family and I have had the honor of working with Lainey over the years. Most recently, when she and her band performed on our Louisiana Rose parade float - it was truly an unforgettable experience. Having her talent and creativity contribute to Louisiana is a blessing, and we can't wait to see all the incredible things she'll accomplish in the future. Congrats again, Lainey!

NATIONAL CHOCOLATE MOUSSE DAY
Every April 3rd National Chocolate Mousse Day recognizes the decadent dessert that gained popularity in France in the 1800s.
Mousse is prepared by beating eggs or cream or both to a frothy, airy consistency and then folding the ingredients together to create a light, creamy delight.
While mousse can be either savory or sweet, for this day, we will focus on that all-time favorite, chocolate.
The words mousse and chocolate are derived from the French language, so it isn’t difficult to believe France is where to begin looking for the beginnings of this versatile creation. While we have no exact point in time when this might have been, we do know chocolate was introduced to the French around the year 1615, and they fell in love.
Then a century later, the French developed a method for making a mousse. Savory led the way, but it couldn’t have been long before the same approach was applied to chocolate.
In the United States, an advertisement in The Brooklyn Daily Eagle in 1887 included classes on how to make chocolate mousse offered by a Miss Parloa. She also advised how to make potato soup, larded grouse, potato timbale, and corn muffins.
From dark chocolate to milk chocolate, bittersweet, or any combination, there is plenty of variety when it comes to chocolate mousse.

The private enterprise consisted of over 80 riders and hundreds of stations along the east-west routes that stretched from St. Joseph, Missouri and Sacramento, California. While the Pony Express only operated for 18 months, during that time it was a success. With the incorporation of the Overland Telegraph Company of California and the Pacific Telegraph Company of Nebraska, the Pony Express’ days were numbered.

⚜️
A typical boisterous crowd of revelers gathered during the 1949 Carnival season at the Sazerac Bar in the Roosevelt Hotel. Among the crowd are some still wearing their masks, albeit on top of their heads. There are a couple of paper king’s crowns and one very festive young lady in a sombrero waving to the photographer. It’s only the sourpuss at the far left who seems to be shy about being preserved for posterity. There are a couple of cigar smokers, including our shy friend, at least one pipe smoker, and countless cigarette smokers, including the bartender.
Named after what many consider to be the country’s first mixed cocktail, The Sazerac Bar evokes the grandeur of old New Orleans. The cocktail itself draws its name from a brand of French brandy, Sazerac-de-Forge et fils, reputed to be the favorite of apothecary Antoine Peychaud who invented the Sazerac cocktail in 1838 and whose bitters are an integral ingredient.

Donz Bar on the Mandeville, Louisiana lakefront. Quite haunted as it was a hospital for both the Union and Confederate forces back in the Civil War.
The bartender told me that he and others witnessed a foggy exterior along the lake and saw Union soldiers milling about under a tree. Several people have reported seeing nurses in old uniforms in the pool table area.

FOR THE LOVE OF COLOR!
MUSEUM NOW OFFERS ENCHROMA GLASSES FOR COLOR BLIND AUDIENCES TO EXPERIENCE COLOR
As part of our mission of accessibility and inclusion, Ogden Museum of Southern Art has partnered with EnChroma to make the colors in our artwork accessible to the color blind. Color blind guests can now borrow EnChroma glasses for color blindness at Ogden Museum for the duration of their visit.
Imagine being unable to see all the colors in a beautiful painting, a flower, a sunset, or the color of a loved one’s eyes? While people with normal color vision see over one million shades and hues, those with color vision deficiency only see up to 10% of colors. An estimated 350 million people worldwide are color blind: 1 in 12 men (8%) and 1 in 200 women (.5%). That means that over 1.9 million people in Louisiana and over 160,000 people in New Orleans are color blind and yet until now no museum in the state of Louisiana or in the city of New Orleans included accessibility options for this significant population.
Ogden Museum is proud to be the first museum in Louisiana to offer this new option for color blind guests.
Ask for Enchroma glasses at the front desk when you purchase your tickets to experience our art in full color!
Questions? Learn more about our accessibility accommodations!
Special Thanks to our Partner, EnChroma, for enabling a love of color f

Friday Night Wine School - La Touraine, Loire Part 2
Fri Apr 7, 2023
5:30 PM - 8:00 PM CDT
Breaking Down Loire, Part 2 - La Touraine
The Loire Valley offers an embarrassment of riches to wine lovers, whatever their preferred style happens to be and the diversity in Touraine is the perfect example. Sometimes called the “Garden of France”, La Touraine was where nobles built many of the chateaux that make the Loire Valley one of France’s most popular tourist destinations. Cabernet Franc is king here with stunning reds from Chinon, Bourgueil and St Nicolas de Bourgueil. For the whites, Chenin Blanc takes center stage with wines with its contrasting styles from Savennieres to Vouvray. The Touraine appellation also includes excellent examples of Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay and Malbec (locally known as côt) that provide excellent quality with and competitive pricing. So many great wines to choose from! Get your tickets here, La Touraine

Local Genealogy Expert Explains
How to Use FamilySearch User Group on FaceBook
METAIRIE – Steve Williams, a local resident who co-founded the FamilySearch Users Group on Facebook, will speak at 7 p.m., Monday, April 17, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.
The session – part of the meeting of the Genealogical Research Society of New Orleans – is free of charge and open to the public. There is no registration.
FamilySearch Users Group on Facebook is a forum to learn, discuss topics and help others. Williams will share his insights on navigating FamilySearch and suggest techniques for getting the most from this vast resource. His presentation will cover a variety of FamilySearch topics, such as searching through catalogs and images, making corrections, and collaborating with others using FamilySearch Tree.
Williams created FamilySearch Users Group with a friend five years ago. The site has grown to more than 17,000 Facebook users. His first experience with genealogy occurred when he was very young, following his dad through cemeteries and courthouses. Later in life, he worked as an intelligence analyst for a federal law enforcement agency, building his skills for finding information. He began applying those skills to genealogy, renewing his interest in it.
"When my dad became sick, I had a lot of free time comparing his notes with online databases," Williams says. "And since he never touched a computer, I had a clean slate to work on."
For more information regarding this presentation, contact Chris Smith, Manager of Adult Programming for the library, at 504-889-8143
