LET YOUR YES BE YES AND YOUR NO BE NO
Have you ever met someone that just could not make up their mind? One minute they say one thing, and the next minute they say the opposite. It can be really challenging to deal with, especially if they tell you they are okay with something and then say they never said it.
The book of James in Ch. 1 deals with this. It talks about being double-minded. It shows the faith level of this person. It is low. It says in James 1:5, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth (which means to defame, chide, taunt, reproach, revile or upbraid) not; and it shall be given him.” God does not want us in the dark concerning the decisions we make. He wants us to come to him, ask for His wisdom and then make a decision. He is not going to reproach or taunt us. He wants us to be in the know. The key is to ask in faith.
In James 1:6-7 it says, “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. (wavering means to separate thoroughly; to withdraw from, to oppose, to hesitate, stagger.) For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.” When a person wavers, he just does not make a decision. He is up and down like a wave on the sea. Then James 1:8 says, “A double-minded man is unstable in ALL HIS WAYS!”
All his ways? That’s what the scripture says. Everything he does is double-minded, and that person cannot be trusted. This is not something any Christian should have in their lives. They should be walking in faith, trusting that God has led them to make the right decisions. If they fail, they admit it, and repent, but they do not blame someone else for their failures.
Jesus was teaching in Matthew 5:37 and said, “But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.” What is He saying? He is saying think before you speak yes or no, because when you keep changing from yes to no you are double-minded.
Since this is a problem with many, the answer only comes through studying the Word of God and knowing what it instructs. You cannot debate the truths in scripture. When that is our standard to live by, we will know what to say. It starts with admitting you have a problem with this, then repenting, and trusting that God will show you truth through the word! Let your life be one that reflects His word by learning it and living it! Let your yes be yes and your no be no.
