Monday Weekly News & Updates
white-flower.jpg
Good Afternoon,

It has been a difficult spring. First, we are experiencing a pandemic and have had to physically isolate from each other. Then in the last several weeks we have seen horrific videos of a racist action of a woman in central park, the senseless deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, and the events in Atlanta this weekend. The demonstrations across the country and world are pushing us to examine the issues of needed police reform, racism, and racial injustice though out our society, and examine our own feelings about what we are seeing. Many of our clergy have preached on these issues the last couple of weeks, and some of our churches have started special studies. Saint David’s Episcopal Church, a sponsoring congregation for SCT, will be offering a Zoom class at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays in July using the workbook ‘Me and White Supremacy’. This course comes very highly recommended, and St. David’s has agreed to allow SCT members to participate. I plan on being in the class and think I will learn more about myself and my conscious and unconscious biases and racism. The author of this book was interviewed on Book TV, click on this link to see the interview  www.c-span.org/video/?468915-1/me-white-supremacy . If you want to participate you will need to contact the St. David’ Episcopal Church office. The workbook is currently most readily available for Kindle and Nook eReaders.

As the Shepherd’s Center of Topeka moves toward reopening, we will be following the guidance provided by the CDC, Shawnee County, and our host facilities.

Please be safe.

Mike Stanfill - Chairperson of the SCT Board

Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 40:28-31
28  Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.
29  He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30  Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted; 31  but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
