DUSD Families & Staff,
Many of you are aware there was an incident near Kolb Elementary this morning that left one of our students in the hospital. Principal Joyce Gibson shared her thoughts with the Kolb families and staff earlier today, which mentioned the importance of constantly reminding our children and ourselves to focus on safety.
I wanted to share her note and encourage all of you to keep this child and family in mind while they recover.
Dublin Unified School District
Kolb Families & Staff,
As many of you know, this morning, one of our Eagles was struck by a vehicle on their way to school.
Due to heavy traffic during the morning commute, and out of the utmost caution, local public safety officials decided to airlift the student to an area hospital to receive treatment. No other children were injured, and no further details are available at this time.
We deeply care for all our students and send our love and support to the student and their family. This is an opportunity to show how caring the Kolb and Dublin communities are and we encourage you to provide cards and letters of support. These can be brought to the school and we will make sure the family receives them.
Student safety is our top priority and even though this happened off-campus, we encourage you to talk with your children about the need to be cautious when crossing intersections or passing driveways. Adults drivers must also be vigilant, not just around schools, but at all times. Safety is something we need to always keep top-of-mind.
Incidents of this nature can create emotions we are not always sure how to deal with. Because of this, we will have counselors available on campus for students, parents and staff. We encourage anyone trying to cope with the situation to take advantage of this valuable resource.
Out of respect for the student and family's privacy, we do not plan to issue additional statements and ask that you refrain from speculation.
