Best wishes to Tien Lee , Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Faculty Development, who is leaving KU at the end of the Fall 2019 semester to be the head of the Department of Communication at the University of Macau. Dean Ann Brill said, "The school is grateful to  Tien  for his many contributions. While we will miss him, we also congratulate him on this new position. Best wishes,  Tien !" Lee's new position will allow him to live closer to his family in Taiwan and Hong Kong. “I was honored to work with the outstanding faculty, staff and students under the remarkable leadership of Dean Ann Brill," Lee said. "Best of luck on the building renovation and the new curriculum in development. Go Jayhawks!" ​His last day at KU is Dec. 27.

News track chair Lisa McLendon was quoted in a story about the word "gubernatorial" on NPR's national news program "All Things Considered" on Friday.
Poynter features Eudora project
Poynter featured an article last week on The Eudora Times, a news website started by Assistant Professor Teri Finneman and J-School students that is now part of the Jayhawk Media Group. Student Sydney Hoover has been named editor and will start in January.

Nominations for the Budig Teaching Professorship of Writing 2020 are now being accepted. Completed files must be delivered to the dean’s office (200 Stauffer-Flint) by 5 p.m. on Nov. 21. Learn more here.

Deadline to apply for J-School scholarships is Dec. 1
Each year, students are eligible to apply for School of Journalism scholarships, starting Oct. 1. All students admitted to the school are encouraged to apply. Students who receive KU renewable scholarships should note that the School of Journalism will likely be funding those scholarships during their junior and senior years. Students receiving renewable scholarships should still apply for journalism scholarships; additional funds may be available. Applications are due Dec. 1, and scholarship recipients will be notified in April 2020. Scholarships are for the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 academic year.  Apply here  (click the red Sign In button at the top, then log in with your KU online ID and password). You may be asked to complete a general application question before moving into the  School of Journalism Undergraduate Scholarship Application
Hearst Journalism Awards
Entries are now being accepted for the 60th annual Hearst Journalism Awards. Students may enter in the following categories: Writing, Photojournalism, Radio, Television and Multimedia. Learn more here.
IRTS Summer Fellowship Program
The 2020 IRTS Summer Fellowship Program is a highly selective program that teaches a talented group of up-and-coming communicators the realities of the business world through an all-expense-paid internship in New York City from May 31 to Aug. 1. Apply now for McNair Scholars Program
The McNair Scholars Program is a federal program funded by the U.S. Department of Education that prepares students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and scholarly activities. McNair Scholars are first-generation, low-income students, and/or members of underrepresented minority groups in higher education. The McNair Scholars Program is   currently accepting applications to the program   for the 2019-2020 academic year. Learn more and apply here.

PRSSA club visits Kansas City companies
Members of KU PRSSA visited Team KC, VMLY&R and O’Neill Events and Marketing on Friday in Kansas City, Missouri. KU PRSSA members were Briana Herrington , Olivia Leonard , Leslie Escareno , Julia Enriquez , Lexi Granados and Faith Keffer .
They were joined by Steve Rottinghaus , KU PRSSA adviser.

Korva Coleman Diversity in Journalism Internship
Applications are now open for the Korva Coleman Diversity in Journalism Internship, which is geared toward training college students of color to be part of the next generation of public radio reporters and newscasters. The Coleman intern will get an immersive, hands-on learning experience at KMUW, Wichita’s award-winning National Public Radio station, as well as mentoring from NPR newscaster Coleman.
