Vision: A community of opportunity where everyone has hope and can reach their full potential

Mission: To solve our community’s toughest challenges by connecting people, resources and ideas

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

We had a good time Saturday participating in the Veterans Day Parade while informing our community about Mission United. Thank you to Wendy Boord, Sarah Henderson, Coretta Hill, Erica La Spada, LaShaundra Sawyer, Joe Snowberger and Maria Vogt for joining us.

We had a couple of guests join as well, including our former CFO Robin Abbott, former HR director Egypt Jones, Egypt's family and Maria’s daughter, Lola Gage-Vogt. We marched behind the Raines High School JROTC and were entertained by their performances along the route. Next year, we plan to have a chant, cheer or choreographed movement, so please plan to join us.

Tomorrow at a gathering in North Riverside, we will announce our multi-million-dollar commitment toward increasing housing for all, beginning in key zip codes in Jacksonville. The marketing team will share the press release in Teams on Wednesday when it's released to the general public. Thanks to James Ellout for leading this work that will have a profound impact on the future of families and our community.

COMMUNITY IMPACT - FULL SERVICE SCHOOLS

Papa Johns Foundation Donation to Full Service Schools Food Pantry

Thanks to the generous grant of $5,000 from Papa Johns Foundation, our Full Service Schools team will be able to increase reliable access to food so students have sufficient nourishment to thrive and succeed.

The project enhances Full Service School's ability to remove non-academic barriers for students by expanding food pantries in three Full Service Schools locations: the Greater Springfield Family Resource Center, Englewood Family Resource Center and Ribault Family Resource Center.

The grant will be used to purchase nutritious and balanced food in bulk for Full Service Schools food pantries so sites are able to meet the immediate needs of students and their families facing food insecurity throughout the year.

Watch Out for Email Spoofs

We had an email come through to Finance asking for banking information that was a scam. It was extremely difficult to determine it wasn’t real. Please be on the lookout for anything unusual in your email. Questions? Please email Brent.

MANAGEMENT AND GENERAL

Side Door Under Repair - Do Not Use

The side cypher lock door is currently under repair. Please use the front entrance to our suite to enter and exit until further notice. If there is an extreme emergency happening within our building, you may exit through the side door. For security reasons, we would like this door to remain locked until repairs are made.

Free Membership in The Nonprofit Center, located here in The Jessie

Did you know the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida, conveniently located on the first floor of The Jessie, provides services, programs and information resources for members while advocating for the Northeast Florida nonprofit sector locally and at the state level? With more than 150 events a year — most free to members — in locations throughout the region, the Nonprofit Center offers something for every nonprofit employee.

To make it easy for all United Way employees to register for membership, Human Resources is providing a list of employee names and work email addresses to the Nonprofit Center. Watch for an email from them to complete your registration and take advantage of their resources and training. It is a great service with a terrific staff. Stop in their office on the first floor to say hello and introduce yourself. They are a terrific resource, and their training – in-person and online – is excellent.

Preventative Care and Mental Health Services for Living Your Best Life

Each day can be stressful at times, but it can be joyful, too. That’s why taking care of our health is so important for our physical and emotional well-being. United Way of Northeast Florida encourages each of you, as an individual, a family member, a friend and as an employee, to make the most of your health insurance plans through preventative care and mental health services.

For those enrolled in our Florida Blue health insurance plans, the plans pay 100% (at no cost for you) for in-network preventative care appointments and for mental health services. When scheduling your appointments, make sure you tell your provider’s office that you are coming in for your preventative visit and verify with your doctor’s office that there will be no charge for your visit.

In the Florida Blue plans, preventative care includes, but is not limited to:

  • Annual physical
  • Well-Woman exam
  • Well-Child exam
  • Mammogram (certain age restrictions apply)
  • Colonoscopy (certain age restrictions apply)
  • Flu shot
  • COVID vaccination
  • And more.

Additionally, active members in the Florida Blue plans can register for a personalized health portal on www.floridablue.com. This portal can help you with ID cards; finding a doctor; accessing Teledoc; seeing your health insurance plan details and exclusions; learning about Wellness Rewards; and accessing Blue365. Blue365 is a discount program on fitness, apparel and footwear, hearing and vision, nutrition, etc.

For those employees who are enrolled in a health insurance plan outside of United Way, we encourage you to learn more about your own plan details regarding preventative care and mental health services as well.

We encourage everyone to make the most of your health insurance plans to help you live your best life!

Holiday Bonus Days

As announced in our October All Staff meeting, we will be awarded with four bonus days during the holiday season. All four bonus days will be discretionary, and you will be able to use them anytime between Nov. 20 and Jan. 5.

Please note, our office will be closed on Nov. 23 and 24, Dec. 22 and 25, and Jan. 1 for our regularly scheduled organizational holidays.

Before finalizing any plans to take time off, please review them with your supervisor and get approval. After approving, supervisors will need to manually enter bonus days on their nonexempt/hourly employees’ timecards as well as on their own.

To add bonus days to timecards, please select from the drop-down menu in Paychex.

211 and 988 teams will have until Jan. 12 to use their bonus days due to their 24/7 schedules.

We will have a spreadsheet posted in Teams for everyone to insert the days they will be working during the holidays. More to come on this.

*Bonus days must be taken as full days (8-hour increments); no partial or half days.*

Enjoy this gift of time and have a wonderful holiday season!

Zoom/Teams Backgrounds in the Marketing Resources Folder

Reminder, we've added not one, not two, not three, but FIVE Zoom/Teams backgrounds for use in virtual meetings to the Marketing Resources folder in the All Staff Team. Each have a slightly different design, and you can use your favorite or choose a different one every day! The choice is yours – just please plan to no longer use the “Amplify Good” backgrounds.

Download the new backgrounds here, and remember, there are all kinds of cool things in the entire Marketing Resources folder for you to explore.

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

Salute to Service - Tocqueville Society Gratitude Event

We spent a beautiful evening last Wednesday, Nov. 8 expressing our gratitude to our active and veteran military as well as to our Tocqueville Society donors.

As the sun was setting, Tocqueville Society donors received a tour of the U.S.S. Orleck and proceeded to mix and mingle while listening to the music of University of North Florida’s Ryan Little Trio Jazz band. The Englewood High School ROTC Color Guard kicked off the program with a Salute to Colors while the audience joined in to sing the National Anthem. We received a message from our previous Tocqueville Society chairs, Karen and Greg Montana, and Melanie Patz and Coretta Hill welcomed the audience and giving Tocqueville Society updates.

Dan Bean, Chair of Mission United Advisory Board and President of the USS Orleck, shared how the USS Orleck made Jacksonville its home. Joe Snowberger spoke about the work of United Way’s Mission United and Kristle Helmuth was generous enough to share her story as a veteran and how navigating veteran services can be challenging, further explaining the need for Mission United Veteran Care Coordination efforts.

Lastly, Melanie Patz introduced the new 2024 Tocqueville Chairs Katie and Mike Boniface.
