Advocacy is more about action; and government affairs is more about relations.

OKCMAR has adopted an aggressive agenda of action to be built around the Advocacy program. More details will be unveiled in the coming months.

The OKCMAR Government Affairs Committee is rebranding to Advocacy to illustrate how OKCMAR conducts efforts to influence policy and issues that are important to the membership. OKCMAR’s Advocacy Program will be centered around the core principles of the NAR REALTOR® Party strategy:

Vote: As a member, you are encouraged to vote for candidates and issues that build strong communities, protect property interests, and promote a vibrant business environment at the local, state and national levels.

Act: Recognize the importance of REALTORS® speaking with one voice, participating in national, state, and local advocacy efforts.

Invest: Your investment in the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) and Political Action Fund helps us not only promote the election of pro-REALTOR® candidates across the US, but helps fund other activities that support our advocacy efforts.

Get Involved

Right now, we are asking members who are interested in being a part of this effort to join with OKCMAR members who have already accepted the challenge. E-mail OKCMAR Government Affairs Director Gary Jones at gjones@okcmar.org the subcommittee and/or task force you are interested in. We will provide the information and get you involved!

The list of subcommittees and task forces are as follows:

Policy Subcommittee develops and proposes policy framework and advocacy agenda for approval by OKCMAR Board to prioritize policies and guide advocacy efforts. Members help create talking points to support policy objectives.

Advocacy Subcommittee creates, implements, and monitors the logistics components of the Advocacy program. This will include grants and program support from NAR & OAR and efforts to engage membership and consumers in advocacy efforts.

Communications & Marketing Subcommittee works with staff and others to create a marketing and communication plan for OKCMAR’s advocacy efforts, including an annual marketing piece highlighting efforts and accomplishments.

Political Partners Subcommittee continues to work with the 31 municipalities' elected officials and staff in the OKCMAR jurisdiction.

Homeless Task Force works on creating a strategy for OKCMAR and its membership to help fight homelessness in the OKC metro.

In just the first month of 2022, OKCMAR members have invested $56,106 in RPAC.

This puts OKCMAR on track to achieve NAR’s coveted RPAC President Cup for 2022, which requires us to:

  • Have at least 37% of the membership invest in RPAC (Knocked that one out of the park. Currently at 51.8%)
  • Raise at least $121,233
  • Have at least 45 members be a RPAC Major Investor (Donate $1,000 or more to RPAC)

RPAC Committee Chair Jeanette Ketterling responded to the news, “I was a little concerned when I saw the 2022 RPAC goals for OKCMAR but feel pretty good with the investments by members so far this year.”

The committee is currently finalizing the 2022 RPAC fundraising campaign, which will be formally unveiled later this month.

Elections Update.jpg

It was a great day for OKCMAR’s Advocacy Program, as the candidates and bond election supported won. “Our advocacy efforts is all about improving the quality of life and helping our members engage more with their communities," stated OKCMAR Government Affairs Chair Glen Cosper.   “With the re-election of Mayor Holt, OKCMAR member Katie Cornman’s election, and the passage of The Village bond election we took a big step in that direction.”

Mayor David Holt won with 59.8% of the vote and the election had the largest turnout of voters in an OKC Mayor's race since 1959. OKCMAR donated $5,000 to the campaign through RPAC and supported the effort with an NAR Independent Expenditure grant that mailed postcards, created a digital campaign and created a get out the vote calling program.

Members of the OKCMAR Government Affairs and RPAC Committees were in attendance at First National Center as the results of the election were announced. From left: LaNell Long, Jessica Thompson, Mayor David Holt, Sarah Casey, Jeanette Ketterling, Gary Jones.

RPAC donated $1,000 to OKCMAR member Katie Cornman. With 55% of the vote, she avoided a runoff in her race to become District 2 Piedmont School Board member. “We are so proud of Katie. She is the perfect example of a member stepping up to be a leader in their community,” stated Cosper.

The Village bond propositions supported by the OKCMAR Advocacy program passed. Both Propositions passed, with Prop 1 with 77.9% and Prop 2 with 73.9% of the vote. OKCMAR received an NAR Issue Mobilization grant that helped us support the bond with a digital marketing campaign and a get out the vote campaign. The Village Vice-Mayor Adam Graham expressed appreciation for the support given to help pass the bonds.
