We have a chance to finally replace our overcrowded, outdated, poorly designed jail without raising taxes. The Oklahoma County jail is just one piece of our criminal justice system. We need a jail that keeps us safer and reflects our community values, helping people who can be diverted from incarceration be more productive members of our community. By working together we have made great strides to reduce the overcrowding in the jail, but we cannot change the design and physical structure of the current facility.
The pending expiration of existing county bonds gives us the opportunity to build a new facility that better serves our needs and is safer and more efficient - without a tax increase.
Every vote counts, so please share this message with friends and colleagues who are Oklahoma County residents and like/follow the Fix the Jail coalition on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Your polling location will be open for voting on Tuesday, June 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The item for the new jail will likely be on the back of the ballot, so don’t forget to complete both sides when you vote.
