Update on Community Scholarship

On August 17th, Scholarship recipient, Pebbles Thompson, graduated as a member of Class #71 of Community Culinary School of Charlotte (CCSC).

When Pebbles began her training, she already had a 20 hour a week part-time job as a driver/dispatcher at Charlotte Douglas Airport making $14.50/hour. She continued to do this work during her culinary training. Prior to graduation, with the assistance of CCSC, Pebbles and another student were hired for part-time Catering/Food Prep work with Elevation Church at $20/hour. Pebbles plans to continue both jobs while she pursues her long-term dream of having a smoker and a food truck.

Congratulations, Pebbles.

Thrift Shop Re opening

We are in the home stretch for getting the Thrift Shop ready to open, and we have a small request. A space has been identified by the front door that can accommodate a bench up to 4 1/2 feet long. We have often heard that our customers would like a place to sit temporarily while waiting for others. Does anyone have a bench to donate, either gently used, or purchase?  If assembly is needed, we can do it.

Thank you.

Moving Day is almost here...

Did you take a good look around. . . after you were greeted by our very own happy kids on the door?

Were you taken aback by the big bright interior of your new Thrift Shop?

The cool colored dressing room and the elevated register check out  area?

Did you see all the new meeting spaces in the Chapter Area?

AND…… the big gathering area, no more meetings on lumpy donated sofas!

The new warehouse all on one floor, with lots of big work tables.

The new OSB store with its private entrance! AND……

All the extra rooms throughout the building to house our growing Philanthropic Programs!

As promised, we are almost ready to call everyone back to work so we can show off our new facility to our loyal and many new customers.

The movers are tentatively scheduled to begin moving us in on Tuesday September 6, Wednesday September 7, and Thursday September 8. Mark your calendars as the TS managers and Operations folks will begin to contact members to come in and start unpacking! Stay tuned!!

Get together at Brewers for lunch!

Members are invited to get together for lunch after the regular meeting this Wednesday August 24.

Brewers is located at 4001 Yancy Rd. at the corner of Yancy Rd and Old Pineville Rd in the historic Bower’s Mill building.

It has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a great varied menu. Free parking is available in two marked lots on Yancy Rd.

In order to accommodate us comfortably, they would like to have a general idea of how many to expect. Please email vpmembership@alclt.org if you think you might be able to join us.

Cards were sent to:

  • Kathy Marcello following a fall at home
  •  Edna Coggins, following the death of her mother, age 95
  • Jo Ann Parry following surgery
