Where better to network on West Virginia Day than at The Wild Ramp?

Thank you to The Wild Ramp for hosting us with delicious food including locally grown salad, pulled pork sliders, and meatballs! The Wild Ramp (Tri-State Local Foods, Inc.) is an indoor, year-round, nonprofit farmers market based in Huntington, West Virginia, with a mission to support our community by promoting local agriculture, providing fresh food and celebrating artisan craftsmanship.

Leadership Huntington is a program offered through the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce that is designed to connect, develop, empower, and mobilize current and emerging leaders who are committed to making a difference in the Huntington region. The program is open to all individuals who live or work in Cabell or Wayne counties.

The program aims to bring together leaders from diverse industries and backgrounds to foster collaboration, promote community involvement, and develop a network of informed and engaged leaders. The curriculum is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the region's economic, social, and political landscape, while equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed to tackle complex business challenges.

This is a 10-month program starting in September and ending in June. Participants meet once a month for a full day excluding a two-day orientation. Each session is organized around a theme and will be explored through speakers, discussions, field trips, and exclusive experiential activities.

In this episode, we sits down with Tosha Pelfrey, President of the Huntington Children’s Museum, which is gearing up for its grand opening in the summer of 2024. Tosha shares how this incredible project began as just an idea and evolved into a soon-to-open community treasure. We discuss the museum's inception, the formation of the board, fundraising efforts, location selection, goals, vision for the future, and much more.

Valley Health is pleased to welcome PharmD  Aaron Stone to the Valley Health family.  Stone began working in the Valley Health East Huntington pharmacy on May 28, 2024. 

Aaron attended Marshall University for prerequisite coursework and earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from West Virginia University. He has more than 15 years of experience as a pharmacist and has received the Marshall University Pharmacy Preceptor of the Year award, and the CVS Paragon Award. Stone has a special interest in helping the underprivileged population.

Cabell Huntington Hospital (CHH), a member of Marshall Health Network, is proud to announce that its Center for Surgical Weight Control has been named a Center of Excellence (COE) for bariatric surgery by the Clinical Sciences Institute of Optum®. This marks the 11th time since 2011 that CHH has received this prestigious recognition.

A COE designation is awarded to medical practices that deliver top-quality clinical care combined with excellent patient support, resulting in better patient outcomes. Optum Centers of Excellence are reviewed annually and are recognized for providing clinically superior, cost-effective healthcare based on criteria such as fewer patient complications and readmissions.

Hospitals within the Optum COE program, such as CHH, perform more successful bariatric procedures than many other nearby facilities and offer:

• A 15% lower mortality rate compared to non-COE providers
• A 16% lower inpatient hospital readmission rate
• A 12% lower reoperation rate for bariatric procedures
• Lower average cost per surgical episode

Sturgill Simpson will make his long-awaited return to music this year with an extensive fall tour along with a new album under a new name, Johnny Blue Skies. The artist announced new dates today including a stop in Huntington, WV at the Marshall Health Network Arena on November 16.
