Applications for Leadership Huntington

Class of 2024-25 Are Now Open! ✅

The Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for our second Leadership Huntington class! Leadership Huntington is a program designed to connect, develop, empower, and mobilize current and emerging leaders who are committed to making a difference in the Huntington region. The program is open to all individuals who live or work in Cabell or Wayne County.

The program aims to bring together leaders from diverse industries and backgrounds to foster collaboration, promote community involvement, and develop a network of informed and engaged leaders. The curriculum is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the region's economic, social, and political landscape, while equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed to tackle complex business challenges.

This is a 10-month program starting in September 2024 and ending in June 2025. Participants meet once a month for a full day excluding a two-day orientation. Each session will be organized around a theme and will be explored through speakers, discussions, field trips, and exclusive experiential activities. Applications for the program are open now through June 30. For more information and to apply, please visit https://www.huntingtonchamber.org/leadership-huntington/

Exploring Local Government 🚨

The Leadership Huntington class of 2023-24 concluded their final session learning about local government. The class heard from several community leaders on their roles and leadership; City of Huntington, WV Mayor Steve Williams, Cabell County Commission President Kelli Sobonya, Chairwoman of Huntington City Council Sarah Walling, Barboursville Mayor Chris Tatum, Wayne County Commissioner Travis Thompson, and Cabell County Assessor’s Office Irv Johnson.

The class was given a firsthand view of the operations of the Huntington Police Department and a tour of Compass Huntington, an innovative program designed to provide first responders with tools they need to process high-stress situations and strengthen their overall resiliency.

In the afternoon, the class visited the Mayor Joseph L. Williams, Jr. Fire Station, where they engaged with the firefighters of Huntington Fire Department Station #2 and Fire Chief Greg Fuller about firefighting operations, safety protocols, and received practical training on using fire extinguishers.

We are thankful for our local heroes who serve and protect our communities!

Marshall Health Network CEO Announces Plans to Retire 💚

Dr. Kevin Yingling has advised the Marshall Health Network (MHN) Board of Directors of his plans to retire as the CEO of MHN next year.

“It has been my honor and privilege to serve the patients, community and region,” said Dr. Yingling. “As I look across Marshall Health Network, I am inspired by the talent and positive momentum of our team, and I know that together, we will continue to reach new milestones. I look forward to working with the MHN Board of Directors throughout the selection process for the next CEO to guide our system forward.”

“We are deeply grateful to Dr. Yingling for his many contributions to MHN,” said David Fox, chair, MHN Board of Directors. “As the first CEO of MHN, Dr. Yingling sought to understand the system’s needs as he led us through the challenges of COVID, welcomed Rivers Health to the system, developed relationships that supported growth throughout the region, and unified the health system with Joan C. Edwards Marshall University School of Medicine and Marshall Health to create our newly integrated academic health system. Perhaps most important, Dr. Yingling instilled a spirit of servant leadership. His kindness, compassion and collaboration have created a strong foundation we will continue to build upon at MHN.”

The MHN board has developed a CEO selection committee comprised of board members and leadership and selected an executive firm to begin the process of a national CEO search. Upon selection of the next CEO, Dr. Yingling has committed to supporting the transition and onboarding of the new CEO.
