Herd Holiday 2023 🎅

This holiday season, Marshall University is excited to announce its upcoming Herd Holiday event, a festive experience that promises to bring joy, community spirit, and a touch of holiday magic to campus and beyond. 


The annual event is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Marshall University’s Memorial Student Center on the Huntington campus.


Key Highlights: 



• Tree Lighting Ceremony: The centerpiece of the event will be the lighting of the Memorial Student Center Plaza tree by President Brad D. Smith and First Lady Alys Smith beginning at 5:30 p.m.

• Live Entertainment: Marshall’s Homecoming Royalty will host the lighting ceremony featuring live performances by the students of Marshall University’s Early Education STEAM Center and True Impact Performing Arts.

• Festive Treats: Indulge in the holiday spirit with seasonal treats and beverages, including cookies, s’mores and hot chocolate.

• Holiday Activities: From 6 – 8 p.m., attendees will be able to create Marshall ornaments, bookmarks, reindeer bait and gift tags, fill a stocking, write letters to Santa and more.

• Photo Opportunities: Everyone’s favorite, Santa-Marco will return for traditional holiday photos from 6 – 8 p.m. In addition, various photo opportunities including a 360- photo experience will be available throughout the event.

Holiday Open House Set for Dec. 3, 2023,

at Huntington Museum of Art 🖼️

The Huntington Museum of Art will present Holiday Open House on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but visitors may bring nonperishable food for Facing Hunger Foodbank and warm clothes for Cridlin Clothing & Food Pantry.


Holiday Open House at HMA will feature musical performances; a visit with Santa; shopping in the Museum Store; art activities in the Education Gallery; and refreshments. Also, the exhibit of artist-decorated trees titled “Art on a Limb” will be on view at HMA during Holiday Open House. “Art on a Limb” goes on view at HMA on Nov. 28, 2023, and continues through Jan. 7, 2024. The C. Fred Edwards Conservatory will feature holiday botanical stations.



Musical performances in HMA’s Grace Rardin Doherty Auditorium will feature Cabell Midland Collegium Musicum at 1:30 p.m. and the Wayne Elementary Honor Choir & Percussion Ensemble at 2:30 p.m.

New Psychiatrists Join Marshall Health 🩺

Marshall Health Network and the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine welcome four psychiatrists to their team of behavioral health providers and faculty.

 

Justin T. Gandee, M.D., provides adult inpatient psychiatry services at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He has an interest in rural medicine and procedural psychiatric treatment. Gandee earned his medical degree at Marshall University, where he also completed his psychiatry residency. 

 

Brady E. Kullen, D.O., specializes in acute adult inpatient psychiatric care at Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital and also sees patients at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Hershel “Woody” Williams VA Medical Center, St. Mary’s Medical Center and the outpatient clinic at Marshall Psychiatry. Kullen earned his medical degree from the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his psychiatry residency at Marshall University. 

Mallory Morris, M.D., provides child and adolescent psychiatry consultations at Marshall Psychiatry. She earned her medical degree from Marshall University, where she also completed her psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship.


Angela Thorp, M.D., cares for patients at St. Mary's Medical Center in the behavioral health unit and conducts electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) procedures. Thorp earned her medical degree and completed her psychiatry residency at Marshall University, followed by additional ECT training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and TMS training at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.



Gandee, Kullen, Morris and Thorp serve as assistant professors at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.
