| | Huntington Museum of Art to Offer a Docent Open House on Sept. 2, 2025 | | |
The Huntington Museum of Art is offering a free informational Docent Open House on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for those who are interested in becoming volunteer art and nature tour guides. Light refreshments will be served.
“Docents are volunteers who share their appreciation for art and nature with visitors of all ages at the Huntington Museum of Art, which has a nature trail system on its 52 acres,” said HMA Director of Education Cindy Dearborn. “If giving tours of our exhibits or nature trails sounds like something that appeals to you, then come to Docent Open House and learn more about being a volunteer docent. No previous experience in giving tours is necessary and all docents are thoroughly trained and supported by HMA staff members.”
Docents gather on Monday mornings at the Huntington Museum of Art during the fall and spring for informal art training sessions with the staff members of HMA’s Education Department. “The Huntington Museum of Art is able to provide the number of tours that we do because of our docents,” Dearborn said. “Many of our volunteers have formed lasting friendships as part of our docent program. Being part of our docent program is very rewarding when you see students and adults enjoying their visits to the Huntington Museum of Art.”
For questions about the docent program or other education programs at HMA, call Dearborn at (304) 529-2701 or send her an email at cdearborn@hmoa.org.
To learn more about activities at the Huntington Museum of Art or Museum membership, visit hmoa.org. HMA is fully accessible.
West Virginia residents may obtain a summary of the registration and financial documents from the Secretary of State, State Capitol, Charleston, WV 25305. Registration does not imply endorsement.
