Facing Hunger Foodbank Highlighted in Recent News

This past week Facing Hunger Foodbank was highlighted in recent news, read how:

Snap-Ed, a program supporting healthy living and eating, is in jeopardy of ending on Sept. 30 if the House of Representatives pass the 2025 reconciliation bill also know as the “one, big beautiful bill.”

Congressional leaders are hoping to pass the budget by July 4.

“In general, we reach over 10,000 kids with nutrition education a year and usually around 1,100 adults through these direct nutrition education classes that we offer. For West Virginia, our SNAP-Ed program, we’ve really focused on tying nutrition and agriculture together to accomplish the goals around increasing fruit and vegetable consumption, which will then lead to obesity prevention,” WVU Extension associate professor and public health specialist Kristin McCartney said.

Advantage Valley Success Stories - Meet the Entrepreneur!

In the heart of West Virginia, where big dreams often begin with a brave idea and a strong work ethic, Jeff Adkins Painting is proof that with the right support and the courage to grow, something extraordinary can take shape.

In Barboursville, West Virginia, what began as one man with a paintbrush has grown into a thriving, full-service painting company serving clients across the state. But for Jeff Adkins, owner of Jeff Adkins Painting, business growth was never just about profits, it was also about purpose.

Jeff had always taken pride in a job well done. His one-man operation quickly earned a reputation for reliability and quality across the region. But like many small business owners, he eventually hit a ceiling. Managing every brushstroke, estimate, and customer relationship on his own was no longer sustainable. Jeff reached a crossroads: grow or risk falling behind.

That’s when he connected with Advantage Valley’s FASTER WV program, and everything changed.
