Leadership Huntington Celebrates Manufacturing Month | | |
The Huntington Regional Chamber hosted its Leadership Huntington manufacturing session last week. Presented by Marshall Health Network, the class kicked off the morning at Alcon, where Rebecca Kasey led a leadership session on the power of connection followed by a panel with Candace Childers of Alcon, Chuck Oldaker of Service Wire Company, and Derek Scarbro of the Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center. We capped off the morning with a tour of Alcon’s new facility led by Jason Koebel and Brysen Perry. During lunch, Dr. Bill Bissett delivered a powerful talk on West Virginia manufacturing and its future.
After lunch, we headed to Nucor, where Dan Stephens shared how the company's historic investment is setting the stage for new opportunities, stronger communities, and a brighter economic future. Touring their site with Markee Schindler gave us an up-close look at just how transformational this work will be for our state.
A huge thank-you to all of our speakers for sharing their expertise and to our hosts for showing us how investments in manufacturing today are building a better West Virginia for tomorrow.

| | Facing Hunger Foodbank recipient of Kentucky Power Foundation grant | | |
As part of our longtime partnership and support, Facing Hunger Foodbank was recently requested to submit an application for funding from the Kentucky Power Foundation in the amount of $10,000.00. As with all such requests, the food bank dedicated the application toward mobile food distributions in Boyd, Greenup, Lawrence and Martin counties in Kentucky to honor this partnership. In another great end to Hunger Action Month, we received this gracious funding and will direct these funds to our Kentucky neighbors in November and December.
American Electric Power subsidiary Kentucky Power just completed their sixth annual Power Up the Pantry event on Sept. 25th in recognition of Hunger Action Month at multiple locations in Ashland in addition to food drop-off locations in Hazard and Pikeville. Since its inception, Power Up the Pantry has collected thousands of pounds of food and raised thousands of dollars to support the two food banks and their local food pantry partners.
“One thing we did differently this year was we took this program into the schools,” said Kentucky Power External Affairs Manager Ryan Lake. “Poage Elementary donated 525 pounds of food for this event and we worked closely with Holy Family School as well.”
Lake said that hunger remains not just a problem in eastern Kentucky but across the nation. “It’s great to be able to give back to the communities we serve and to work with the Kentucky Power Foundation to help with housing and to fight hunger,” he said. “We were all really excited to be able to get involved with students that want to give back to their community as well through our work in support of Facing Hunger Foodbank and God’s Pantry Food Bank.”

The event will spotlight Huntington’s growing wellness and small business scene — with expected attendance of 200+ and media coverage from local outlets. With your support, we aim to elevate our community within the wellness space and show what makes Huntington so wonderfully well.
