All NJSA Members are invited to attend a special "OPEN" meeting of the Board of Directors on September 20, 2018 at 3:00pm at NJ Advanced Media, Woodbridge Corporate Center, 485 Route 1 South, Bldg. E, Ste. 300, Iselin, NJ.
Following the board meeting at 4:00 pm., a
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE on two recently enacted laws will be presented:
- New Jersey's new Equal Pay Law went into effect on July 1, 2018. Under the new law all protected classes are to be paid at a rate comparable to pay rates for substantially similar work and all state contractors will be required to report to the state detailed information regarding protected classes and compensation.
- New Jersey's new statewide Earned Sick Leave Law goes into effect October 1, 2018. The new law essentially requires all NJ employers to allow their NJ employees to accrue at least 1 hour of earned sick leave for every 30 hours worked, and the employee can use a maximum of 40 hours of earned sick leave in a consecutive 12 month period. Employees can start to use their accrued sick leave after they have been employed more than 119 consecutive calendar days with the employer.
The expert legislative panel includes: Richard Scott (ProSearch Network), NJSA's Vice President of Legal & Legislative Affairs, Marc A. Freedman (Freedman & Friedland), NJSA's General Counsel, Patrick Stewart, Principle, Public Strategies Impact, and David Sprong, Partner, Becker LLC. A comprehensive review of the laws and their impact on your staffing firm will be presented as well as a question and answer session for your feedback.
To round out the afternoon, you are also cordially invited to a networking happy hour at 5:30pm at Kona Grill adjacent to the NJ Advance Media offices.
This is a free event for members and an opportunity to meet the NJSA board, learn what you need to know about two important human resource issues, and spend some quality time with your peers.
