West Virginia’s First Robotic SADI-S Procedure
Performed at Marshall Health Network Hospital
| | |
Surgeons at Marshall Health Network-Cabell Huntington Hospital have performed West Virginia's first robotic Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileal Bypass with Sleeve Gastrectomy (SADI-S), expanding treatment options for patients with severe obesity and complex metabolic disease.
The procedure was successfully completed July 2 by Semeret T. Munie, MD, FACS, FASMBS, a fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon at Marshall Health Network and division chief of bariatric surgery at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.
SADI-S is an advanced bariatric procedure that offers another surgical option for patients with severe obesity, particularly those with very high body mass index (BMI), difficult-to-control diabetes and other metabolic conditions.
"Introducing SADI-S has been a goal of our program," Munie said. "The procedure allows us to better serve patients with more advanced obesity and severe metabolic disease who may benefit from a different surgical approach. Being able to offer this advanced procedure here in West Virginia means patients can receive highly specialized care close to home."

| | Help Feed Military Families at the Fisher House | | |
Every day, military and veteran families travel to Huntington to be near a loved one receiving care at the Hershel "Woody" Williams VA Medical Center, and many of them stay at the Fisher House while their family member heals. For these families, a home-cooked dinner is more than just a meal; it's a small piece of comfort during an incredibly stressful time. That's where our community can step in. We're looking for local businesses, families, churches, and individuals willing to volunteer to prepare and deliver a dinner for the families staying at the Fisher House. No cooking experience or fancy menu required, a simple, hearty meal made with care is exactly what's needed.
Signing up is easy and only takes a few minutes. Whether you can commit to a single night or want to make it a recurring effort with your team or organization, every dinner makes a difference for these families who have already given so much.
