Under New Jersey's Earned Sick Leave Law, most employees have a right to accrue up to 40 hours of earned sick leave per year. Go to nj.gov/laborto learn which employees are covered by the law. New employees must receive this written notice from their employer when they begin employment, and existing employees must receive it by November 29, 2018. Employers must also post a notice in a conspicuous and accessible place at all work sites, and provide copies to employees upon request. Click here to access NJSA's Legal Resource Page to download the notice. Note, this page is for NJSA members only.
The NJSA Legal & Legislative Committee will have additional information on pending regulations concerning the paid leave legislation.
THE WEEK IN TRENTON
NJSA's Lobbyist, Patrick A. Stewart from Public Strategies Impact, has provided members with an update on what is happening in the Trenton and in the state of New Jersey. This update is available to NJSA Members ONLY in our Legal Resource Library on our website. Members must be signed in to access the information.
This week's update includes:
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, facing a growing scandal surrounding his administration's decision to hire a former campaign aide for a state job despite an allegation of sexual assault, said Monday he had ordered an "independent" investigation into how is staff handled the matter and was prepared to change state law to ensure nothing like it happens again.
Murphy announced Tuesday New Jersey is opening another Choose New Jersey economic development office.
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Hugin outspent Democratic incumbent Bob Menendez by a nearly 5-1 margin between July and September, thanks largely to Hugin's personal fortune, which has funded the bulk of his campaign.
Visit NJSA's Legal Resource Library to read the full update and learn how this will affect you!
