From Mary Harp
The Gardeners will meet on Tuesday, January 19, from 9:00 until approximately 10:30 am at Portillo Bridge Park (Portillo and Calma).  Bring tools you want to work with to clean up the park and rebuilding of stone enclosure/platform.  Practice COVID protocol. Call Rod Harp at 520.329.9103 if you have any questions.
Beginners Pickleball
From Patty Tracy
Thanks to those who participated in the Beginner Pickleball play last Tuesday and Thursday.  We had a good group and everyone seemed to have a great time. This is a great opportunity for those new to the game to come up to the courts and get an opportunity to learn the skills and participate in some play. On Tuesday, Sharon Falor will focus on "Drills & Skills" to help develop beginner player understanding of the game and the physical skills needed to enjoy play.  She makes it fun and easy to understand!  On Thursdays the focus will be on playing the game with others of your skill level. Sharon and others with experience will be available to assist, give pointers and lots of encouragement.  We encourage you to come and play.  Enjoy the sunshine and fresh air.
We encourage that during the close Skills and Drills session that you wear your mask.  During play masks are optional and during breaks in the rest area please practice good social distancing.
Book Club
The next meeting of the EE Book Club is February 11 at 10 am at the Ramada. The book to read for February is A Ship of Brides by JoJo Moyes, discussion leader will be Stacie Meyer. This group has had successful meetings at the Ramada by following COVID protocol....masking up and sitting 6 ft apart....and meeting in the open air Ramada.  Call Linda Sielken with questions, 908-240-1887.
Aluminum Can Tab Collection
Nancy Moore wants to thank everyone for donating their aluminum can tabs to the EE collection bag at the Ramada.  She reports that she had the biggest bag yet to deliver recently.  The tabs benefit a disabled gentleman in Green Valley.  Thanks to everyone for remembering the tab collection!
CARING CONNECTIONS
Joe Vitello
We announced a couple of months ago that Joe Vitello, passed away on October 30, 2020 after a brief illness.  Since then Joe's wife of 30 years, Mary, has relocated to Tucson.  Mary's new address is 6505 N La Cholla Blvd, Apt 317, Tucson, AZ  85741. As a young man, Joe served in the US Army and Coast Guard.  After the military he managed a manufacturing plant in Hanover, MA for 20 years and then moved to Delray Beach, FL where he and Mary managed condominiums.  In Green Valley he was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation of Our Lady Of The Valley Church and was active in their charitable events.  Joe was a vibrant presence in Esperanza Estates, and did maintenance work for many of his friends and neighbors here.  Both Joe and Mary are missed.

Caring Connections is a way to share information about EE neighbors who may be experiencing a health crisis or could use some neighborly assistance.  With the isolation of Covid, we often don't know what's happening right next door.  Our neighbors want to know, so they can help one another.  If you know of a situation, please call Judy Hayes, 720-201-9260, or email jkhayes70@gmail.com.

COVID Vaccination Registration

As of 9 a.m. last Thursday morning (Jan 14), Pima County registration for the COVID-19 vaccinations went active to register phase 1B participants, which includes healthcare providers, first responders and people over the age of 75. More than 20,000 people signed up in the first few hours, filling up all the appointments at that time. Keep checking the website because new appointment slots are made as more vaccines become available.  Click here for the registration site and more information.
White Elephant
Source:  Green Valley News, Jan 13, 2021
The White Elephant thrift store closed its doors last Tuesday (Jan 12) in the face of rising coronavirus cases and a decline in volunteers.  Manager Karen Lavo said Monday that they will be closed until numbers improve and won't accept donations during that time.  Lavo said several volunteers have said they are stepping back until they've had the vaccine.  Click here for more infomation.
