NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS
Pickleball Balls
From Kevin Welsh
Notice to all Pickleball players...
The HOA has authorized the use of any USPA approved ball during the posted operating hours at the Pickleball Courts.  If you have questions, please contact Kevin.
Summer Gatherings
You have undoubtedly gathered that our neighborhood elves (are they called "elves" in the summer?) are planning some EE Summer get-togethers at the Ramada.  Currently on the calendar are a Fourth of July Social which is being organized by our EE Hospitality Group, and No Host Happy Hours every other Friday (next one will be June 25).  It will be nice to see your smiling faces again!
Kudos
It's been reported that there is an EE Good Samaritan who has been doing some work cleaning and beautifying the common area
along the EE trail just east of the Pickleball courts.  Whoever is responsible, we want you to know that your work is noticed and appreciated!
Mystery Spot???
So....did anyone find the Mystery Spot last week? Did you happen to notice that it wasn't at the McCabe's after all?  Sorry, the newsletter lady had a "senior moment" (something that happens now and then).  The meditating frog is actually located in Portillo Park.  Interestingly, this one stirred up more notice than usual.  Maybe I'll have a senior moment again sometime...just to see if you are paying attention!  By the way, if you have an idea for a Mystery Spot, send it on over to  jkhayes70@gmail.com.  If you can, send me a picture, but better write down the location.
CARING CONNECTIONS
Karyn Grob
We are sorry to report that Karyn Grob (Placita Nueva) passed away last week after an illness.  Karen lived in Esperanza Estates since 2012.  She made many friends while walking her dog, Shiloh, in the neighborhood and in the desert, and she volunteered at the Animal League.  Our sincere condolences to Karyn's famly and friends.

Anyone who is in town is invited to come to the Esperanza Estates Ramada, Portillo and Ensalmo, at 8:00 -10:00 am on June 26.  Karyn's sisters will be there, as well as neighbors and friends. Bring a cup of coffee and a memory of Karyn. Early morning snacks and juice will be provided.
Commemorative Benches

A message from Mary Hess....
On behalf of Mary Hess and the rest of Dean's family, the memorial gift of a park bench at Regalo Park in Esperanza Estates is gratefully acknowledged.  As you pass by and see his name, remember how much it meant to him to be able to serve the neighborhood he loved.  Anything he gave was returned to him and then some.

We want to mention that commemorative benches in memory of Ken Miller and Fred Blum have been placed by their families in common areas of Esperanza Estates' neghborhood. The benches remind us of pleasant memories of old friends, are very much appreciated, and add so much to our lovely neighborhood.

Heat Safety - Older Adult Toolkit

Arizona is one of the hottest places on earth from May to September. Heat-related illnesses are common during the summer. Year after year, nearly 3, 000 people visit Arizona emergency rooms because of heat-related illnesses.

Heat illness is a preventable condition, but has been the number one weather-related cause of death in the United States. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), heat illness causes more deaths than hurricanes, lightning, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes combined. From 2009 to 2019, over 2,000 deaths were caused from exposure to excessive natural heat. Of deaths among Arizona residents, 34 percent occurred in older adults over the age of 65. The Heat and Older Adults Safety Toolkit (HOAST) was created to provide older adults and caregivers information to stay safe in the heat.  HOAST provides information and resources that can be used to educate older adults and care givers about heat illness prevention and treatment.
