Leaving For the Summer? Don't Forget Your Weeds!

From Kevin Welsh, President and EE HOA Board

To all our Winter visitors who are leaving for the Summer months...please remember to make arrangements to keep your yards free of weeds while you are away. Our Summer rains can cause prolific weed growth, so action is required by each homeowner to make sure this is taken care of in your absence. We appreciate everyone who is already attending to this matter.

This is a requirement mandated by the CCRs of Esperanza Estates and has been further implemented by Board resolutions. Failure to take care of this responsibility will result in action to have the weeds abated at the expense of the homeowner, plus a surcharge. It will be much cheaper for you to handle this yourself than to leave it for the Board to handle in your absence. There are numerous landscape firms in this area with whom arrangements can be made. We greatly appreciate your help to keep Esperanza Estates as weed-free as possible.

Pool Lift Chair

From Sharon Falor

This note is an attempt to express my gratitude for the generosity of Esperanza Estates residents and friends who together raised just under $8,000 in a six week period of time for the pool lift chair. Over 20 residents gifted money, while dozens of residents eagerly paid for pickleball lessons with myself, Teri, Liz, and Kelly. The Enhancement Committee enthusiastically contributed almost $4,000 toward the Admiral Lift chair which will have a 450-pound capacity. The chair will be solar-powered and comes with a cover and a warranty on installation, parts, and service. When we say “it takes a village” it truly does. Through the generosity of individuals, all our residents will now have access to the soothing and healing waters of our pool. On May 1st the pool will close to begin the renovation of the pool and spa. Please be patient as Victor and his crew chip the plaster, scarify the Kool deck, replace tiles, replaster the pool, and apply Kool decking to the perimeter. When completed enjoy a refreshing dip, and know your giving made a difference! Thank you from my heart to yours!

Gardeners

From Mary Harp

The Gardeners will meet at 8:30 am on Tuesday, April 23rd, at 261 S. Circulo Napa (Harp Residence). Bring tools for transplanting and repotting plants. New members are always welcome to join us. Call Rod Harp at 520.329.9103 with any questions.

REQUEST FOR HELP FROM YEAR-ROUND EE RESIDENTS: The Gardeners are looking for several people who can water new plantings in the EE Parks during late May, all of June and early July. Contact Rod Harp for information on how you can help at 520.329.9103. Thank you!

The "WILD WEST" Event Was "A Real Good Time!"

Last week, our fabulous EE Hospitality Committee put on a heck of a "feed" with their Wild West dinner of delicious hamburgers and all the trimmings. Many residents got in the spirit and wore their cowboy gear, and we even had live entertainment! This was a down home, "get your spurs on" celebration!

Many thanks to Robin Lockwood, Debbie Ries, and the hardworking hospitality committee volunteers. You bring so much to our community, and your events are always outstanding.

A highlight of the evening was recognition of long time residents, Tom Cooke and Cyndie Gates. Tom is moving from EE but will still be in Green Valley. We wish him every happiness with his new adventures.

Cyndie has been the official "bartender" at our events. She is resigning from that job, but is not leaving EE. Time for us to give her a drink!

Sandy LaVoi commented, "Western party was a great hit! Huge thanks to everyone who puts in the hard work for these events. And a huge thanks to everyone who donated to the food shelf."

Pickleball Accolade

From Gloria Creagh

On April 6, 2024, the GVR 4.0 50+ women’s division team. named The Drop Shot, earned their State Championship victory! The Drop Shot players include our Esperanza Estates resident Terri Neumann, who during the winter assisted Sharon Falor in coaching our EE players. One of three of the Drop Shot coaches is Sharon Falor, our EE resident who graciously gave lessons throughout the winter to a large group of pickleball players.

Congratulations to Terri and Sharon and all the Drop Shot Team!

We wish the team good wishes at Nationals in South Carolina on September 18th.

Green Valley Council April Board Meeting

From Hugh Rhine

The April GVC Board of Representatives meeting on April 18 offered a few items likely to be of interest to EE residents.

1. Supervisor Christy, just back from surgery, noted that he thinks the Board of Supervisors is likely to increase the current property tax rate from 4.1 cents per $100 valuation to as much as 6.2 cents per $100 valuation for next tax year.

2. Green Valley Fire reported that we are entering fire season. This is expected to be an especially high-risk year because of our wet spring.

3. The Sherriff Dept reported for March....

126 Traffic stops with 29 tickets issued

   1   DUI

   9   Collisions

They did a total of 619 calls and 12 Arrests.

4. SAV used 4619 volunteer hours and responded to 89 incidents.

There were 15 Scam reports including one in which a lady lost $35,000.

5. The First Responder Fair had over 700 visitors which is regarded as very successful.

6. Reminder that the June 6 Monsoon Forum requires registration. Call (520) 648-1936

7. There was a special report from the PIMA Co Office of Digital Inclusion asking all GV residents with Internet access to go to pima.gov/Connect-PIMA and run the Speed Test application. This is to help verify the level of shortage of Broadband access as input to the ongoing Fiber Ring Project.

Thank you for all the kind thoughts and get well wishes I received from so many EE friends and neighbors during my recent hospital stay. I am home now and on the mend. Recovery is never as fast as we'd like, but it will happen, and what better place to recuperate than in Esperanza Estates! I will continue my work on the Monday Morning Memo from my easy chair recliner...perfect!

Funny Bone

It's okay to talk to yourself.

And okay to answer yourself.

But sad when you have to repeat what you said 'cause you weren't listening.
