Leaving For the Summer?

Don't Forget Your Weeds!

From Tom Cooke, EE HOA Board

To all of our winter visitors who are leaving for the summer months...please remember to make arrangements to keep your yards free of weeds while you are away. Our summer rains can cause prolific weed growth so action is required by each homeowner to make sure this is taken care of in your absence. We appreciate everyone who is already attending to this matter.

This is a requirement mandated by the CCR’s of Esperanza Estates and has been further implemented by board resolutions. Failure to take care of this responsibility will result in action to have the weeds abated at the expense of the homeowner, plus a surcharge. It will be much cheaper for you to handle this yourself, than to leave it for the Board to handle in your absence. There are numerous landscape firms in this area with whom arrangements can be made. We greatly appreciate your help to keep Esperanza Estates as weed free as possible.

Pool Hours

Effective immediately we are returning to traditional pool hours. As a reminder those hours (posted on the gate) are 7 am - 7pm from November 1 until April 1. Beginning April and thru October 31 the hours are 6 am to 9 pm. For now, there will be no changes in the pool or spa temperatures (90 degrees for the pool and 104 degrees for the spa). By the way, the hours of operation for children are all year, 11 am - 1 pm and 4 pm - 6 pm, per the posted sign at the pool.

Green Valley Council Report

From Hugh Rhine, Esperanza Estates GVC Rep, 303-249-5745

Key items from the March 16 GVC Board of Representatives meeting...

Steve Christy Pima County Supervisor reported.

  • Board of Supervisors has approved and together with Sahuarita an agreement to begin Design and Construction of the Campbell Avenue Extension (from Tucson to Sahuarita) that has been under consideration for some time.
  • Pima County has approved a lease on a property (approximately 65,000 SF) on Drexel Rd, Tucson, for a shelter space for Asylum Seekers.
  • Pima County has been using prison inmates to pick up trash along parts of I-19.

Chuck Wunder of Green Valley Fire reported...

  • We are entering snake season. The snake line is (520)629-9200. They have in the past relocated as many as 1000 snakes in a single month.
  • It's expected that this will be an "active" fire season. There is a good deal of greenery that will likely dry out as the season progresses.

Doug Kenyon of the SAV noted...

  • The scam currently hitting GV is one involving e-mails claiming to be from either the Pastor of your church or possibly from your HOA asking for cash cards for some unfortunate person.
  • Vacation Home Inspections will begin picking up as some residents head out for cooler climates.
  • The Sheriffs Dept. made 350 traffic stops and issued 57 citations in addition to responding to 873 calls during the month of February.

St Patrick's Day Celebration

From Dave Sielken, HOA President

A huge shout out to Robin Lockwood and the Hospitality Team for a great St.Patrick's Day celebration. Well done as always. Thank you very much!

And, another Thank You to the residents who entertained with impromptu songs...what a treat!

Enhancement Committee Wants Your Ideas

From Jody Hauge

The 2023 Esperanza Estates Rummage Sale is in the books, and it was another successful event for the Enhancement Committee. The sale raised $3760. and was added to the proceeds from our Dessert Buffet/Silent Auction and bake sale, Elves Pole Decorating and miscellaneous income.

The Committee met last week to toss out some ideas for improving and beautifying our community. We were thinking big and had a few ideas, but we decided to put it out to the whole community to give us ideas on how the money could be spent.

We are challenging all of you to share your thoughts for how our earnings could be used to enhance our Esperanza Estates neighborhood. Please share your ideas with Jackie Rautio, Chairperson, (602) 206-3354 or any of our committee members.

Thank you to all the volunteers that worked to make the Rummage Sale a success. Thank you to the community for coming to support the sale. It was truly a team effort. A special thank you to our Enhancement Committee members: Roberta Bower, Gloria Creagh, Cyndy Gates, Terry Golden, Jody Hauge, Paddy Hurley, Cindy Jones, Michelle Lippert, Robin Lockwood, Louise McCabe, Barb McCalpin, Kraylen Miholer, Marian Mundale, Lynn Noble, Sandi Oster, Jackie Rautio, Toni Robson, Claudia Rose, Barb Rydall, Linda Sielken, Becky Ramsey, Patty Tracy, and Deborah Wright.

Unsung EE Heros

Jody and Jim Hauge

Nominated by Roberta Bower

I'd like for everyone in EE to know how much work Jody Hogue has done for the Enhancement Committee this year. She spearheaded the Silent Auction as well as organized many aspects of the successful Ramada Sale. She is a tireless worker who has devoted numerous hours to the betterment of our neighborhood.

What people may not know is that Jody’s husband, Jim, is the silent hero in the background. For weeks their home was filled with auction items which he good naturedly tolerated, then transported to the Dessert/ Auction Party. Then, just a few weeks later preparations for the Ramada Sale began. The Hogue garage was soon filled with donations, many of which he helped transport. As final preparations began for the sale, he tolerated a bevy of females pricing items in their house and garage. Finally, he helped other volunteers haul all the donations to the Ramada and spent precious evening hours guarding the merchandise.

Throughout, Jody and Jim never lost their ready smiles. They are truly Unsung Heros.

Rod Harp

Nominated by Don Hartje

I would like to nominate Rod Harp for the “Unsung EE Hero" recognition. This man, I think, works just about every day beautifying our common areas and parks.  He is without doubt, the master of horticulture, and his knowledge of cactus, etc. is sought out by many. As head of our Gardening Club, he organizes the weekly maintenance of our beautiful parks and common areas.  Through his leadership, our HOA is the subject of numerous favorable comments.

Rod also works many hours behind the scene; examples would be summer watering, winter covering of plants in our parks, and taking care and maintenance of “Amigo”. I sincerely believe he is worthy of special recognition.

Esperanza Estates is fortunate to have volunteers who keep our neighborhood beautiful, comfortable, friendly, and efficient. Many of these folks work behind the scenes, and most of us don't know about their important contributions. Who do you know in EE who is quietly volunteering and contributing to our neighborhood? We'd like to recognize and applaud their work. Please let us know about their work...Judy Hayes jkhayes70@gmail.com and John Nesavich, jnesavich@gmail.com.

Aluminum Can Pull Tabs

Lynn Theder has volunteered to manage our aluminum can pull tab donations. We are still researching charities in Green Valley that accept the donations. In the meantime, please feel free to bring your pull tabs on over to the Ramada and deposit them in the collection can next to the sink. We'll update you with more details in a future MMM.
