Pickleball Cowpokes

From Donna Smith

It was an interesting day at the pickleball courts. One of the cattle that graze nearby got loose and wandered over by the courts. He looked curious, as cows do, but we couldn't let him play pickleball....he didn't have the proper shoes.

So, Tamara Kempton carried a big stick, Bill stood guard, and Cyndie Alto was "point" person. They herded the cow safely back, but only after he drank a neighbor's five gallon rain reservoir. Poor cow just wanted a drink.

Way to save the day EE Pickleball Cowpokes!!!

Reminder...Time to Trim the Palms

From Cyndi Alto

Just another reminder about getting your tall palms trimmed. Thanks to everyone who has already taken care of their tall palms!

The deadline in Esperanza Estates to have your palm trees trimmed is June 30. The dry fronds are a fire hazard during monsoon season, and a spark can catch them on fire in an instant.

Homeowners can hire anyone they desire to do the work. EE has an agreement with Monstrosity Tree Service for $90/tree which they will honor for everyone in EE. Trees untrimmed by June 30 will be trimmed by the HOA, and homeowners will be billed $100/tree. Please call Cyndie Alto, 509-881-7569, with questions.

What are You Reading This Summer?

From Roberta Bower

Here's another book suggestion. I recently read The Mitford Affair by Marie Benedict. It is an interesting piece of historical fiction and a page turner at the same time.

What are you reading this summer? We'd love to hear your book recommendations. Please send your book suggestions to Judy Hayes, jkhayes70@gmail.com.

Maintenance of Street Lamps

From Tom Cooke, EE HOA Board of Directors

This message went out in an email to EE homeowners last week. We're repeating it, as it's important information all our homeowners should have. Thanks to everyone who has already attended to the issues.

The following language appears in the CCR’s, governing Esperanza Estates' dealing with the owner's responsibilities for maintenance of the street lamp.

Section 12.5

The Owner shall maintain the lamppost as part of the Owner's responsibilities, including painting and light bulb replacement.

Owners must keep lampposts operable. Any Owner who is absent from the residence for extended periods of time must make arrangements for the maintenance thereof. Electrical service shall not be disconnected. If an Owner fails to maintain the lampposts, the Board shall contract for such maintenance, the costs of which shall become a Reimbursement Assessment.

A recent survey has developed that a number of addresses in Esperanza Estates are not in compliance with the terms of this paragraph. In other words, these addresses have a nonworking street light. We ask that you review this list of addresses and if your address appears you are requested to take appropriate action to render your street light to work normally.

NAPA: House numbers 743, 772, 783, 801, 861

NUEVA: House number 700

CALMA: House number 890

ENSALMO: House numbers 721, 774

REGALO: House numbers 758, 788, 949, 950

EXCELSO: House number 1173

DEL SUR: House number 1190

The lights at these residences were found in a nonworking condition and the bulb in each was replaced with a new bulb and the light did not come on. In a few cases, the light is on 24 hours per day, indicating a malfunction. These problems mean in most cases there is an issue with the light sensor and it needs to be replaced. There are other possible issues which could cause the light to be not working and if it’s not the sensor, you will need to address whatever issue that is causing the problem.

Please note a couple of additional items: you may not turn off the electricity when you leave the area. Operation the street light requires the electricity to be left on in the residence. Finally, the CCR‘s provide that if the correction is not undertaken by the owner, the HOA will do the correction work at the owners expense. If your light requires work, it will be much cheaper for you to have it done than have the HOA do it.

We are aware of one handyman in EE who works on lamp posts and sensors and has a lot of experience. His name is Guy Carlson of 841 Regalo, phone 657-500-9193. It's likely there are others in our area who also do this work.

We ask that all owners referenced in this notice take action within 30 days. We remind owners the HOA is required by Arizona law to enforce compliance with the CCR’s and must do so.

From Sandy LaVoi sandylavoi@gmail.com

The LaVois will be away from July 26 until August 6. There won't be delivery to the Community Food Bank during that period, so please no drop offs of food at the Ramada until after Aug 6.

The next event will be Saturday, July 1 at the Methodist Church on Esperanza and La Canada from 7am to 9am. Drive thru and your 70 pounds is loaded into your car. Produce is different every month.

If you would like to donate some produce, you can make arrangements by contacting Sandy.

Update: Waldo, the Baby Owlet

Remember our story about Waldo the Baby Owlet who fell out of the palm tree nest in EE a few weeks ago? Here's the latest...when the palm tree was trimmed recently, unfortunately the Owl family left. Jeff and Debbie report that Waldo found his wings, and has also now flown the "coop"....at least, he's flown the backyard where he'd been hanging out. He flew to a cactus near a hot tub, and now he has been unseen for several days. Hope he successfully found Mom, Dad, and Sibling.

Thanks to Jeff and Debbie Ries for the pictures and update.

History

National History

From John Nesavich

The Fourth of July—also known as Independence Day or July 4th—has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution.

On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson.

From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues. The Fourth of July 2023 is on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
