Annual Esperanza Estates HOA Meeting
From Kevin Welsh, President, and Ken Lindeman, Secretary
Thanks to Gloria Creagh for the photo
Attendance at our annual meeting was good with 87 property owners represented, 25% of Esperanza Estates properties. While this meeting is usually not a "decision making" meeting, it is a very informative meeting. The Treasurer provided a financial overview of how our income and expenses compared to our budget. Committee chairs shared what happened in the previous year and gave information on plans for the coming year.
The Board election is over, and we want to sincerely thank the people that put their name on the ballot this year. The people that voted, 58% of the eligible voters, gave a clear picture on who they wanted to win. Some ballots had 1 check mark, others had 2 and many had 3. One had 4 and that one was discarded. Two incumbent directors, Debbie Ries and Kevin Welsh, were re-elected. John Nesavich was elected as a new director. Again, thanks to all who ran. Please be thinking about next year and give some serious thought about putting your name on the ballot. Three positions are open every year.
Election Results for the 2024 Board of Directors
Kevin Welsh and Debbie Ries were re-elected and John Nesavich was elected to fill the open seat of retiring (from the Board) Gary Rautio. The Board wishes to thank Connie Scorza for stepping up as a candidate and looks forward to her contributions in the future.
Selection of Officers:
- The new President of the Board is Kevin Welsh and Dave Sielken is the Vice-President.
- Ken Lindeman remains Secretary and Dean Lockwood remains Treasurer.
Committee assignments (Changes):
- Recreational facilities manager (pool, ramada, courts) is Sharon Falor.
- Welcome Corps manager is John Nesavich.
Committee Assignments (Unchanged)
- Architectural Control continues to be Deb Ries
- Common Area Maintenance remains Cyndie Alto
A complete listing of Board and Committee members can be found on the EE Website along with their contact information by clicking on the links below (updates are in progress).

Pool is Open
From Gary Rautio and Tom Cooke
In case you missed the announcement last week, the repairs to the pool cover are completed and the pool has been reopened. Due to the cool temperatures we are experiencing, the pool hours have been changed to 9:00 am opening to 6:00 pm closing.
For a number of good reasons, access to the mechanism operating the pool cover is restricted to persons trained in its use. Persons not properly trained who attempt this could cause serious damage up to and including destruction of the cover. Therefore, we asked that no person not specifically authorized by the board to do so attempt to open or close the pool cover. Thank you for your compliance.
The spa continues to be open. Spa hours remain 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Please remember to put the spa cover back in place after using. This will help to retain the spa water temperature.
Thanks again for your cooperation.

Water Therapy Class
From Sharon Falor
Beginning February 7th and continuing until April 3rd, I will be offering a Water Therapy class from 9:30 to 10:30 am, at the EE pool. This class will assist people recovering from replacement surgeries, struggling with balance related issues, or those having difficulty remaining active due to chronic conditions. After suffering a severe injury last winter, I started water therapy, and I have enjoyed a full recovery. Please join me for our first, H20 PT class on February 7th at 9:30. It will be fun, yet aerobically challenging. It will give you the confidence to move more freely.

Green Valley Council Report
From Hugh Rhine
Of most interest to EE owners from the Green Valley Council Board of Representatives meeting:
- The Pima County Board of Supervisors have approved financial support of $87,500 for the next fiscal year.
- The expected Digital Loop proposal for Pima County as it now is estimated could be completed by 2028. The Digital Loop is a program to provide internet service to underserved areas.
- Rumblings are suggesting that increased sewer rates may be in our future.
- A representative of the Pima County Treasurer's office reported that HB2173 has been initiated to address technical issues that resulted in Green Valley property taxes being overstated by a doubling of High School taxes. Updates to this will follow.
- There will be an Outdoor Lighting Code Forum, January 25th, 10 am, GVR Canoa Hills Center. It's an opportunity to learn everything you need to know as an HOA and as a homeowner about Dark Sky Communities. Call 520-648-1936 for more information.

Snowman Fix
Aren't we a bunch of lucky ducks with our 75 degree temperatures while much of the rest of the country is in a deep freeze. While it's unlikely that many (or any) of us miss shoveling the snow or even playing in it, here are a few fun pics for you to get your "snowman fix." Thanks to Connie Scorza for sharing these.

IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST: A Play by Oscar Wilde
Jan 25, 2024 - Feb 4, 2024
Featuring The Santa Cruz Shoestring Players
Oscar Wilde’s madcap farce about mistaken identities, secret engagements, and lover's entanglements still delights readers more than a century after its 1895 publication and premiere performance. The rapid-fire wit and eccentric characters of The Importance of Being Earnest have made it a mainstay of the theater curriculum for decades.
