On Saturday, May 20, 2017, Coppin State University held commencement ceremonies for more than 600 graduates. Many of our graduates are working, volunteering or pursuing a graduate degree. We congratulate all of our Coppin Eagles on their determination and success. We wish them well in all of their future endeavors.

Coppin Grants First Doctoral Degrees
Coppin State University granted its first doctoral degrees to Khalilah Jefferson and Jennifer P. Pope. Both received their Doctor of Nursing Practice from the Helene Fuld School of Nursing. Congratulations Dr. Pope and Dr. Jefferson !

The 15th Annual Coppin State Golf Classic
The Coppin State University Development Foundation, the Division of Institutional Advancement, and I would like to express our sincere gratitude and deepest appreciation to the nearly 40 sponsors, 95 players, planning committee members and the numerous volunteers who made the 15th Annual Golf Classic possible. Their combined efforts helped raise over $40,000 for the Senior Opportunity Scholarship (SOS) Program which provides financial assistance to undergraduate seniors who demonstrate high academic achievement and have financial need.

2017 FREE Summer Concert Series
The Office of Alumni Relations presents its annual concert series that kicks off Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. with a performance by the Rollex Band. The series brings artists to the library quad during the last Thursday of the summer months. Remember to bring a chair, food, and friend to this family oriented event. Coppin State's Newest Foundation Merit Scholarship Donor, Mr. Ollen W. Douglass
Mr. Ollen W. Douglass is the newest Foundation Merit Scholarship Donor. Mr. Douglass was born and raised in East Baltimore. After graduating from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, he graduated from Coppin State University in 1971 with a B.S. degree in Secondary Education. Mr. Douglass is a veteran of the United States Army and is a licensed clinical social worker in Baltimore. This brings the program to 33 scholarships since the program began in 2012. Mr. Douglass will be recognized in a ceremony during Fanny Jackson Coppin week in the fall.

Last month, we launched our "TRANSFERmation Campaign!"
By now, you should have seen signs around town on buses, subway, light rail and billboards promoting Transfer Thursday. This day is an opportunity for potential students to become familiar with Coppin State University directly from faculty, advisors, and current students. This event includes on-site admissions, financial aid information, and a pre-advisement review of transcript(s). Transfer students immediately blend into our vibrant educational atmosphere and benefit from research, leadership, and scholarship opportunities.
The next Transfer Thursday is scheduled for June 8, 2017. The sessions runs 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm and is located in the Talon Center Atrium, 2nd floor. Parking is available in front of the Talon Center. Interested ? Register HERE !

Coppin State wins 2017 Blackboard Catalyst Award !
Coppin State University Division of Information Technology has just been awarded the 2017 Blackboard Catalyst Award. According to their website, Coppin State "joins a select group of people from around the world whose participation has been recognized as a significant and exemplary contribution to our Blackboard Community."
Dr. Ahmed El Haggan, Dr. Dionne Curbeam, Mr. Prasad Dodonna, and I were nominated by Blackboard executive, Timothy Hatfield.
We will receive the award at the annual BbWorld Conference held in New Orleans July 25 - 27, 2017.

Dr. Habtu Braha Information Technology in Teaching & Learning Conference
Special thanks to our IT Department for a very successful technology and teaching conference. Faculty learned about tools and techniques to heighten student engagement. Special thanks for Dr. Curbeam's coordination and Dr. El-Haggan's leadership.

USDA selects Coppin State to host summer camp program.
Coppin State is one of 22 universities hosting, AgDiscovery, the USDA's summer camp program. AgDiscovery is a 2-4 week long summer camp outreach program designed to help middle through high school aged students explore careers in animal science, veterinary medicine, agribusiness, plant pathology, aquaculture, and more. These participants will live on our campus and discover agricultural science from faculty, veterinarians, industry representatives, and professionals working for the U.S. government. Students who participate in AgDiscovery experience hands-on labs, workshops, field trips, and other group and team building activities. Dr. Jiru will take lead on this effort.

Congratulations to Dr. Ron Williams, Dean of the College of Business and Dr. Elgin Klugh, Associate Professor of Applied Social and Political Science, whose article, “Creating a University Driven ‘Ingepreneurial’ Ecosystem in West Baltimore: A Strategy for Rust Belt Revitalization” was published in The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU)
Additionally, Dr. Jamal Uddin, Founding Director, Center for Nanotechnology - Wilson H. Elkins Professor of Chemistry and Nanotechnology, whose article “Photophysical, Electrochemical and Photovoltaic Properties of Porphyrin-Based Dye Sensitized Solar Cell” was published in Advances in Materials Physics Chemistry (AMPC).
