Welcome to Monday Morning Mentions, an electronic communication from the campus of Coppin State University! Periodically on Mondays, we will share updates, highlight good news, and important events taking place on Coppin's campus.  We have much to be proud of at Coppin State University and I want all of us to share in the accomplishments of our university.

Del. Barbara Robinson selected to replace Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh in Maryland Senate 
Congratulations  to Del. Barbara Robinson, Class of '76, who was voted by her peers to occupy the seat vacated by recently inaugurated, Mayor Catherine Pugh.  We wish both well in their posts. This is an exciting time for our city.

Coppin welcomes new Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Keith Williamson

     Dr. Keith Williamson's most recent post was as Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology and Professor of Manufacturing Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technology at Virginia State University.

    Dr. Williamson holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Tufts University, a M.S. in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University, and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Bucknell University. We look forward to Dr. Williamson's academic leadership.  

    Nanotechnology professor receives grant for rapid solar energy project. 

    Dr. Jamal Uddin, director of the nanotechnology center has received yet another Constellation E2 Energy to Educate grant of $25,000 for “Energy Storage, Rapid Charge Systems and Applications”. The grant will fund D r.  Uddin's rapid charge  solar-powered light rail transportation project. This is the sixth time that Dr. Uddin has received a grant from Constellation Energy. 

    Open House & Homecoming will both take place Saturday, February 11th. Please visit our website to register for Open House or for a list of Homecoming activities.  

    Coppin State will host its annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration in recognition of Dr. King's lifetime commitment to equity for all humankind. The event is scheduled to take place Tuesday, January 17th in the Talon Center at 9:00 a.m. 

    Coppin Day in Annapolis is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24, 2017.  We invite you to visit our students, faculty and staff in the Maryland House of Delegates, Lowe Office Building, Room 180 between 10 a.m.-2:00 p.m.  We look forward to sharing the great things taking place at Coppin State. All are welcome to attend.
