NATIONAL WICKED DAY
National WICKED Day on October 30 honors one of Broadway's longest running musicals known as WICKED. Millions of theatre fans from around the world are celebrating today as the day the musical WICKED premiered on Broadway.
The musical WICKED made its debut at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway on October 30, 2003. Since opening, WICKED has been performed nearly 8,000 times and seen by over 50 million people. In fact, it has also been translated into six different languages and is the 4th longest running musical on Broadway. Today, we celebrate the legacy of WICKED being one of the most successful musicals on Broadway.
WICKED BEGINNINGS
Every great Broadway production begins with a great writer and WICKED is no exception. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West was written in 1995 by Gregory Maguire. It is the first of four books in The Wicked Years series written by Maguire. The story is based on L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and follows the life of the Wicked Witch of the West. The storyline in the Wicked series focuses on the unlikely friendship that forms between Elphaba and Galinda until the world decides to call one “good” and the other “wicked.”
The Wicked Years Series
- Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (published 1995)
- Son of a Witch (published 2005)
- A Lion Among Men (published 2008)
- Out of Oz (published 2011)
In 2003, WICKED was adapted into a Broadway musical. Since then, it has won over 100 international awards, including three Tony Awards and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. Notable WICKED alumni include Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, Joel Grey, Megan Hilty, Stephanie J. Block, Annaleigh Ashford, Taye Diggs, and more.
Every night when the curtains rise, the cast of WICKED delivers a jaw dropping performance. In one single night, the cast will wear 269 costumes and change 238 different times before the last scene.
FAST FACTS ABOUT WICKED
- To pay homage to L. Frank Baum, Maguire formulated the name "Elphaba" from the pronunciation of his initials — "L.F.B."
- After the opening number, the ensemble members make a 30-second quick-change into their Shiz University costumes, all while singing and watching the backstage conductor monitors.
- WICKED is seen by more people each week than any other show, making it Broadway’s most popular musical, partially due to the fact that the Gershwin Theatre is the biggest theatre on Broadway. The theatre is a full city block with 1,926 seats!
- It takes over 125 company members to run the WICKED backstage. In fact, the show requires 50-75 front of house staff and dozens more at off-site offices.
- Elphaba's look is one of the most well-known on Broadway. Her elaborate costumes include an Act II dress made up of 37 different fabrics and 600-feet of ribbon that weighs 8-10 pounds. As for her famous green skin, it only takes 15-20 minutes to "greenify" Elphaba using water-activated makeup, grease paint sticks, and a waterproof setting powder. Alternatively, it only takes roughly 10 minutes to remove.
- To create the iconic onstage fog, WICKED uses 500 pounds of dry ice per performance and goes through 16 barrels of dry ice per week.

A Message from Archbishop Aymond
To the Clergy, Religious, & Laity of the Archdiocese of New Orleans:
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Over a year ago we began a parish pastoral planning process in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Building on the priorities of the Ninth General Synod, our goal has been and continues to be to support the parishes of the archdiocese in a manner that provides the people of God with opportunities to grow in their relationship to Jesus Christ and form a deeper connection to their faith.
It is my fervent prayer that all of our parishes are sustainable and full of vitality. Parish vitality is a healthy sign of life in Christ and something that must be continually strived for in all parishes. In light of this, a Parish Sustainability Committee was formed to provide each parish with a profile that highlighted its strengths and weaknesses.
There is no doubt that our parishes, in fact our entire area, have been affected by many factors out of our control. Natural disasters such as floods and hurricanes over the past decade, the COVID pandemic, the challenges of Hurricane Ida recovery, inflation, and sky-rocketing property insurance rates impact our church communities just as they impact our families and our businesses. These are not issues we can ignore in prudent pastoral planning.
When we announced this process, we indicated that there were parishes with significant challenges that would begin an intense period of discernment to evaluate their future needs. With the guidance of the Catholic Leadership Institute, the work of the Parish Sustainability Committee, and using real data on the sacramental, pastoral programming, and temporal realities of each parish’s unique situation, pastors, lay parish leadership, and parishioners were invited into dialogue to determine how to address the challenges facing them.
Today, following a period of prayer, review, and consultation, we announce the decisions that are the conclusions of this discernment.
The final decisions are unique to each parish situation. It was incredibly important to us, and to me personally, that each parish knows their recommendations and desires for their future were not only heard, but considered. In light of this, I am pleased to be able to announce that two parishes, Our Lady of Divine Providence in Metairie and Christ the King in Terrytown have made significant progress in addressing and planning for their challenges and will remain open.
There are four situations where two parishes are merging into one and one case where three parishes are merging into one. Our Lady of the Angels in Waggaman will merge with St. Bonaventure in Avondale to become one new parish. St. Gertrude in Des Allemands and St. John the Baptist in Paradis will merge to become one new parish. St. John Bosco and St. Rosalie both in Harvey will become one parish. St. Mary of the Angels and Our Lady Star of the Sea both in New Orleans will come together as one new parish, and Transfiguration of the Lord, St. James Major, and St. Gabriel in New Orleans will merge together as one new parish.
In two cases, the parish territory will be merged into neighboring parishes. The first is St. Theresa of Avila Parish in New Orleans, which will have its territory divided and merged into St. Patrick on Camp St. in the Warehouse District and St. Alphonsus on Constance St. in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans. The other is St. Hubert in Garyville, which will be merged into St. Peter in Reserve. St. Hubert Church will remain open for one Mass each weekend.
All of these mergers will be effective beginning July 1, 2024.
These are difficult and painful decisions for everyone involved. When I returned home to New Orleans in 2009, I never imagined I would be in the situation of having to merge parishes. This is something we must do for the good of the local church, and something that is being done in Catholic dioceses around the country. I have prayed about this a great deal and have spoken with many trusted advisors and truly believe the Holy Spirit is leading us for the good of the people of God in the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
In closing, I ask that you join me in prayer for these communities as they move through these transitions. Let us pray too for all of us as a local church, may the Holy Spirit continue to guide each of us as we strive for holiness, seek a deeper encounter with Christ each day, and witness with joy in our parish life.
May God bless you and those you hold dear in your heart.
Wishing you God’s blessings, and asking for your prayers in this time of transition, I am,
Respectfully in Christ,
Most Reverend Gregory M. Aymond
Archbishop of New Orleans

SPN's computer generated Football Power Index (FPI), seems to think that there are three one-loss teams that are better than the Georgia Bulldogs in its updated college football rankings.
The FPI has been a mess all season. We check in every Sunday to see how it's doing, but it doesn't look like it's making any progress.
Ahead of the 8-0 Bulldogs, which rank No. 6, the FPI has Ohio State Buckeyes (1), Michigan Wolverines (2), Alabama Crimson Tide (3), Oregon Ducks (4) and Penn State (5). The craziest part is that Georgia actually moved up two spots in the FPI rankings this week.
And what is with the hate for the Washington Huskies? At 8-0, they're one of the five undefeated teams left from the Power Five, yet the FPI has them at No. 14
Here's a look at the full top-25:
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Michigan Wolverines
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Oregon Ducks
- Penn State Nittany Lions
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Florida State Seminoles
- Oklahoma Sooners
- Texas Longhorns
- LSU Tigers
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
- Kansas State Wildcats
- Ole Miss Rebels
- Washington Huskies
- Tennessee Volunteers
- Texas A&M Aggies
- USC Trojans
- Oregon State Beavers
- SMU Mustangs
- Clemson Tigers
- Louisville Cardinals
- North Carolina Tar Heels
- Miami Hurricanes
- Missouri Tigers
- UCLA Bruins
These are absolutely wild, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. What's a 4-4 Clemson team doing in the top-25?

Meteorologist Payton Malone WWLTV
Cool view over New Orleans on this Eve of Halloween. Cold front arrives today and your Halloween is chilly and windy!
Tuesday could prove to be the second coldest Halloween in recent New Orleans history as an "arctic front" moves through Louisiana, bringing gusty winds and hacking temperatures throughout the state.
The coldest Halloween on record was in 1993, when temperatures in New Orleans peaked at around 50 degrees, according to WWL-TV meteorologist Payton Malone.
"But other than that we have not had a Halloween since where we've stayed in the 50s all day long," Malone said in his Monday morning forecast.
But that could change Tuesday. Here's what to expect to across the state.
New Orleans
Much of the Northshore was already feeling the beginnings of the cold front by 11 a.m. Monday, and temperatures in the New Orleans metro area are expected to start tapering off by 2 or 3 p.m., dropping from the high 70s into the low 50s overnight.
New Orleans could struggle to get out of the 50s on Halloween, with forecasters predicting daytime highs of somewhere in the high 50s and low 60s and a slight chance of morning rain. That night will be cold and windy, with lows in the mid 40s and sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph.
North winds are expected to start up Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service of New Orleans and Baton Rouge, and gusts of up to 30 mph are possible through the rest of the week.
"Be thinking about those Halloween decorations," Malone said Monday. "I know you want them up for Halloween and the trick or treaters but they might blow away so make sure they're secured. And also kiddos' outfits — make sure they have a jacket, especially for tomorrow evening."

Cannabis has been making headlines for its legalization, medicinal properties, and increasing popularity in recent years. But did you know that there are some truly astonishing world records related to this versatile plant? From the largest cannabis plants to the most expensive joints, these records are sure to blow your mind. Let's dive in and explore some of the most unbelievable cannabis world records!
1. Strongest Sativa in the World
The Ghost Train Haze strain created by Rare Dankness Seeds has set a new record at Cannabis Cups with the highest THC content compared to all other entries. It boasts an incredible 25-27% potency and is considered a highly sought-after sativa strain.
2. World’s Biggest Joint
Tony Greenhand is a well-known individual who is famous for creating extremely large joints. In 2016, during the 4/20 celebration, he surpassed his previous work by creating a watermelon joint that weighed 4.20 pounds. This joint was so large that it required a hose for proper smoking. To make the smoking experience more comfortable, Greenhand designed a stand to hold the massive joint.
3. Most Weed Smoked
Irvin Rosenfeld is a well-known supporter of cannabis and has gained legendary status due to his impressive consumption of the substance. He holds the record for the highest amount of marijuana consumed and has been recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records for this achievement. As of the record, he had consumed more than 115,000 joints, which is the highest number recorded for any individual.
4. Biggest Weed Farm Worldwide
Aurora Sky in Alberta, Canada is the largest grow-op in the world, with an 800,000-square-foot greenhouse on 30 acres of land. Comparatively, other major facilities like Harborside Farms in California and Tweed in Canada are significantly smaller. Aurora Sky is expected to produce 8,000 kilograms of marijuana per month by January 2019, which is important since Canada is currently experiencing a weed shortage.

Alvin Kamara has done something no other Saints player has — and he also tied Jim Brown
INDIANAPOLIS — New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara added a couple nice feathers to his cap in Indianapolis.
With a 4-yard run in the first quarter, Kamara became the first player in Saints history to record 10,000 All-Purpose yards in a Saints uniform. Earlier this season, Kamara passed Marques Colston (9,766) to break the franchise record.
Kamara also scored twice — once on an 18-yard catch from Derek Carr, and again on a 16-yard run in the third quarter.
It was the 11th time in Kamara’s career that he recorded a rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game, tying him with Cleveland Browns Hall of Famer Jim Brown for the fifth-most games all time with both a rushing and receiving touchdown.

Jeff Duncan: After weeks of frustration Derek Carr, Saints 'needed a game like this'
INDIANAPOLIS — As Rashid Shaheed corralled the game-clinching bomb deep in Indianapolis Colts’ territory, Derek Carr dropped his guard and let it all out.
The 51-yard strike converted a third and 13 late in the fourth quarter and proved to be the decisive blow in a 38-27 Saints' victory Sunday.
In the thrill of the moment, Carr celebrated like a kid on Halloween.
He thrust his index finger high above his head and sprinted downfield, pounding his fist into his chest and gesturing toward the Saints' sideline. As he reached midfield, he punctuated the celebration by raising his hands together to the right side of his helmet and tilting his head toward them like a pillow.
“We were putting them to sleep,” Carr said outside the Saints’ raucous postgame locker room.
Carr said early last week he needed to keep his emotions in check during games, after he drew widespread criticism for his on-field outbursts with coaches and teammates on Oct. 19 against Jacksonville. But after two weeks of consternation and soul-searching, he couldn’t help himself. Two weeks of pent-up frustration and relief burst to the surface.
“On those big plays, I get really excited — I love that stuff,” he said. “It was just a part of the unity, the coming together, the team camaraderie of the moment, and you feel the buzz.
"(Quarterbacks coach Ronald Curry) emphasized to me all week, you’ve been bringing the juice, now let’s bring the juice together as a collective unit. I thought we did that really good today. We needed that.”
The Colts, and their beleaguered 21st-ranked defense, were the right team at the right time for Carr and the Saints, who amassed season highs for points (38) and yards (511).
For at least one day, it all came together for the offense. The explosive plays. The red-zone offense. The ground game. Everything clicked.
Shaheed strafed the Colts secondary for catches of 58, 51 and 44 yards.
The rushing attack ground out a season-high 161 yards.
The Saints scored touchdowns on their first three trips to the red zone.
It was that kind of day, an afternoon when Carr and the offensive unit looked like a juggernaut — instead of a jugger-not.
“There’s a lot of things to like about what did offensively,” Saints coach Dennis Allen said. “I think we all needed a game like this.”

5. Record-breaking Hotbox
Many people who enjoy smoking weed have probably experienced a hotbox in high school. However, at the 2015 Kush Cup in Vancouver, a group filled a room with so much smoke that everyone inside got high. They achieved this by pouring 422 grams of concentrated weed into hot pans, which created thick clouds of smoke filled with THC, setting a new world record.
6. Biggest Dab Ever
Dab Stars is a well-known brand in the cannabis concentrate industry, and it is not surprising that they hold the record for the largest dab ever smoked. In 2015, the company organized an event intending to surpass the previous record of 90 grams by a significant margin. Dab Stars successfully achieved this goal, as they smoked over 400 grams of hash at the event.
7. World’s Strongest Strain
The title of the strongest strain doesn't last for too long as there is tough competition among growers. However, the hybrid Chiquita Banana, which is a mixture of OG Kush and Banana, has managed to reach over 33% THC and is difficult to surpass. To know more about the most potent strains, you can refer to Herb's guide.
Conclusion
These incredible cannabis world records highlight the many ways in which this versatile plant has made its mark on history. From massive plants to mind-blowing consumption feats, these records serve as a testament to the growing popularity and acceptance of cannabis in modern society. As the cannabis industry continues to evolve, it will be exciting to see what new records will be set in the years to come.

NATIONAL CANDY CORN DAY
On October 30th, the country celebrates its favorite vegetable with National Candy Corn Day.
In the late 1800s, George Renninger of Wunderle Candy Company created candy corn. His sweet treat represented the bright colors of corn kernels. Originally, candy corn was yellow, orange and white. However, it wasn't until1889 that the Goelitz Candy Company made the candy popular. Later, other candy makers developed a variety of popular colors and flavors as well.
The original confection was made by hand using corn syrup, sugar, water, marshmallows, fondant, and carnauba wax (a wax made from the leaves of a palm tree). However, modern candy makers combine the original ingredients using machines.
These days, numerous recipes create the candy corn flavors in cakes, cookies, beverages, and more.

.What does "obfuscation" mean?
Confusing or obscuring
obfuscation Pronunciation: uhb-fuh-skey-shuhn
Definition: the act of making something unclear, confusing, or difficult to understand, often with the intention to deceive or conceal information.
Origin: The word "obfuscation" originates from the Latin word "obfuscare," meaning "to darken" or "to obscure."
Example: The politician's deliberate use of obfuscation during the press conference left the journalists and the public puzzled, as they struggled to comprehend the true meaning of his statements.
Confusing or obscuring is indeed an accurate description of the term "obfuscation." It refers to the intentional act of making something unclear or difficult to understand, often with the purpose of deceiving or concealing information. Obfuscation can take various forms, such as using complex language, providing ambiguous explanations, or employing misleading tactics. It is a technique employed in various domains, including politics, law, and computer programming, where obfuscation is used to make code more difficult to decipher, hindering reverse engineering or unauthorized access.

Canal Street
The circa 1858-1859 scene along Canal Street from the top of the Custom House is quite interesting. Photographer Jay Dearborn Edwards captured the city's main shopping artery before there were streetcars in the neutral ground -- notice the lines of omnibuses on the left and upper right of the image.
It was also interesting to see the piles of pipe positioned along the neutral ground at different intervals, drawn from the larger stack behind the omnibuses on the upper left near the center of the image. So, if Edwards is standing on the Decatur Street corner of the Custom House, the first cross street we see would be Camp/Chartres Street, then St. Charles/Royal Street. I am not sure when Dorsiere Street that runs a single block from Canal to Iberville came into being, but it is not evident in this photograph.
In the upper left portion of the image, we can see the dome of the first iteration of the St. Charles Hotel. I wonder what the tall slender structure is to the left in the far background of the image?

As we approach Halloween, we are also closing in on All Saints' Day (November 1st) and All Soul's Day (November 2nd) -- also known as the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed and the Day of the Dead. The Catholic Church teaches that the purification of the souls in Purgatory can be hastened by the actions of the faithful on earth.
Thus began the custom in New Orleans of gathering at the tombs of their deceased family members on All Saints' Day to clean and refurbish the exterior façade of the tombs, shown here in an 1885 engraving. Far from solemn, it was quite the community event with friends and neighbors sharing stories of their loved ones, and perhaps a simple meal as they worked.
Sadly, with many families being scattered throughout the country, many tombs have fallen into disrepair as surviving family in many cases is unaware of the existence of a family plot.

VENDOR OF THE WEEK:
L'Hoste Citrus
In 1981, Lester and Linda L’Hoste began their journey into the world of citrus farming. They have been certified organic since 1996, and their produce is sold affordably at conventional prices. Their mission is to grow the best products for their customers, and they would like to extend a warm thanks to everyone who has supported their farm and family over the years. After damage from Hurricane Ida, the L’Hoste’s son wanted to join in the family business as well. This allowed them to expand their offerings this season beyond satsumas, grapefruits, and Meyer lemons to include heirloom pumpkin, squash, peppers, tomatoes, cantaloupe, and canary melon, “the sweetest melon you’ll ever taste,” according to Lester. Look for winter veggies like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and kale as the seasons change. Find L’Hoste Citrus at Tuesday and Thursday markets.

For the first time last year, the krewe conducted a mini festival in Mickey Markey Park, at Royal and Piety streets in the Bywater, before the parade. Albarran said this year the pre-parade event will be more elaborate, with more vendors, music, and kids’ activities. Traditional Day of the Dead bread will be available, and there will be a costume fashion show.
New this year, the krewe plans to erect a temporary stage at the parade stopping point on St. Roch Avenue near St. Roch Cemetery for speakers and musical performances.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the procession. Customarily, costumes combine mourning clothes with masks and makeup that blend macabre skulls with floral patterns. Marchers often bring candles.
Albarran said, however, that costuming and candles are entirely optional. “We only want people to come and have a magical night,” she said.
- From 4:30 to 6 p.m., the pre-parade fiesta takes place in Mickey Markey Park at 3301 Royal St.
- At 6:30 p.m. the parade will line up on Royal Street.
- At 7 p.m. the parade proceeds on Royal Street, turns right on Franklin Avenue, left on St. Claude Avenue, and right on St. Roch Avenue.
- The parade concludes outside of St. Claude Cemetery, 1725 St. Roch Ave., where singing, performances and mourning ceremonies continue.

Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein
comes to Jefferson Performing Arts Center just in time for Halloween!
The musical comedy is directed by Big Easy Award Winning Director Leslie Castay
(October 17, 2023—Metairie, Louisiana)—Jefferson Performing Arts Society presents a five-show run of the award-winning Broadway musical Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, opening Friday, October 27th at Jefferson Performing Arts Center and closing Sunday, November 5th. The show is directed by Leslie Castay, who won Best Director of a Musical for the JPAS 2022 production of the multiple Big Easy Award-winning Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn.
The original Broadway production of Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein (2008) was nominated for 3 Tonys, 4 Drama Desk Awards, 2 Drama League Awards, and 5 Outer Critics Circle Awards—for which it won Best Musical. In 2009, it was nominated for a Grammy for “Best Musical Theater Album”.
Based on the 1974 Mel Brooks (Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles) movie starring and co-written by Gene Wilder, Young Frankenstein follows the story of Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the infamous Dr. Victor Frankenstein. When Frederick inherits the family castle in Transylvania, he becomes obsessed with his grandfather’s reanimation experiments. Assisted by a bizarre cast of characters that include Igor, Inga, and Frau Blücher, Frederick attempts to bring a creature to life, just like his granddad—only to realize he’s created a monster problem.
Featuring music and lyrics written by Brooks, the musical offers even more hilarity and wordplay than the original movie with songs such as The Brain, Transylvania Mania, He Vas My Boyfriend, and Roll in the Hay. The goofiness and gags of the 1974 movie are enhanced by the song and dance numbers presented by a 22-person all-local cast with a dynamic ensemble of 15, led by these principal cast members:
Michael Paternostro*-DR. FREDERICK FRANKENSTEIN
Adriel Aviles-MONSTER
Scott Sauber-IGOR
Charlie Carr-INGA
Jennifer DeLatte-ELIZABETH BENNING
Meredith Long - Dieth*-FRAU BLUCHER
Adam Seagrave--THE HERMIT / INSPECTOR HANS KEMP
The production features a live orchestra conducted by Maestro Dennis Assaf with Ken Leach as Music Director, Jaune Buisson as Choreographer, Emery Foster as Scenic Designer, Olivia Winter as Props Designer, Stephen Thurber as Lighting Designer, and Eric Porter as Technical Director and Sound Designer.

•Nov. 3-5: Ozone Songwriters Festival
One of the north shore’s signature events for up-and-coming talent, the Ozone Songwriters Festival, the festival will host more than 130 local, regional and national music artists who will sing their hearts across four stages. The event features not only musical talent, but songwriting talent. A VIP Showcase will take place Nov. 3 at the Old Rail Brewing Company, with performances by event creator and Grammy-nominated recording artist Greg Barnhill, among others. Tickets for the showcase range from $65 to $130.
The following days will include performances and a songwriter contest where a winner will be selected for a one-song record deal. Specific details about this portion of the event and stage locations have not been finalized yet.
A songwriter workshop will also take place where budding artists can learn the ins and outs of studio recording, social media, engineering and more. The cost to attend the workshop is $40. More information on the workshop will be posted on the festival’s website at ozonemusic.org as details are announced.
“The festival gives new songwriters the chance to be in front of a live audience and have their songs heard, and to gain valuable stage experience, as well as get a reaction to their songs,” said Barnhill. “It’s also a great experience for the audience, for they might just be seeing the next Usher or Taylor Swift.”
•Nov. 10-12: Festival of the Lake
Our Lake of the Lake Roman Catholic Church will again host its annual fair at its campus on Lafitte Street in Mandeville. This year’s music lineup includes Bag of Donuts, Peyton Falgoust Band, Adam Pearce, and Christian Serpas & Ghost Town. Just be sure to bring chairs for the concert.
Activities at the festival will require tickets that can be purchased for 50 cents each. Early bird tickets will be available on the festival’s website at festivalofthelake.com.

Artists were vetted from nearly 500 applicants, she said, and the festival has been recognized by Sunshine Artist as one of the best in the country. Artist awards will be presented at a special event on Saturday night.

The 26-part cooking series, produced by WYES-TV in New Orleans, was shot on location at Dooky Chase’s Restaurant with dishes prepared by younger generations of the Chase family who have led the restaurant since Leah’s death in 2019.
Viewers will meet Leah’s grandson, Edgar “Dook” Chase IV, who now oversees the restaurant’s kitchen; her niece Cleo Robinson, who joined Leah in the kitchen in 1980; and the restaurant’s newest chef, Leah’s great-granddaughter Zoe Chase. Paired with some of the menus are specialty cocktails crafted by Leah’s granddaughter Eve Marie Haydel, the restaurant’s beverage manager who has updated drink recipes from the restaurant’s earlier days. Granddaughter Chase Kamata narrates. Each 30-minute episode explores a new take on Creole classics and a different chapter of the restaurant’s history.
See it every Saturday at 10am and on Sundays at 11:30am. Watch on WYES-TV and stream on wyes.org/live and on the WYES and PBS Apps. Out of WYES’ viewing area?

Crescent City Classic and YMCA Officials Announce Return of Fall’s Most Popular 5K Race, The Corporate Classic
Annual race on Saturday, November 4 at City Park will benefit YMCA’s Educational Services (YES) Adult Literacy Program
(New Orleans) – Crescent City Classic and YMCA of Greater New Orleans officials are back for the third annual combo of the CCC Fall Classic and YMCA Corporate Cup called the “Corporate Classic.” The family-oriented 3.1-mile race will take place this year on Saturday, November 4, 2023, in New Orleans City Park at 8 am.
Immediately following the family-friendly race, participants will be treated to a wide array of complimentary food, beer and other beverages, live entertainment and an awards ceremony for the top 5k finishers. Registrants can participate as individuals or on corporate teams of 4 to 6 members.
“When we decided to combine the CCC Fall Classic and the YMCA Corporate Cup, we had a tremendous response and every year it’s growing,” said Crescent City Classic Race Director Eric Stuart. “Both races have long-standing traditions in New Orleans with a strong focus on education and we look forward to carrying on that tradition as well as forming new traditions with the return of the 5K this fall.”
Launched in 1980, the YMCA Corporate Cup benefitted adult literacy courses and initiatives throughout the New Orleans Area. The Crescent City Fall Classic began in 1986 with a focus on education initiatives in New Orleans. The annual Corporate Classic benefits the YMCA Educational Services (YES) Adult Literacy Program. Officials have set a goal of raising $100,000 during this year’s race for the literacy program.
"Proceeds from the race allow the YMCA to provide a no-cost program so that adults can learn to read, improve their quality of life, earn a high school diploma, and advance their workforce opportunities," said Dr. Amy Leggette, director of YMCA Educational Services.
Registration for the Corporate Classic in City Park is open now at https://www.ccc10k.com/crescent-city-corporate-classic.html. A special discounted early registration price of $40 is available now through 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 27.

Final Four Rematch: LSU WBB To Face Virginia Tech in SEC/ACC Challenge
Story by Zack Nagy
© Provided by LSU Country on FanNation
LSU will host Virginia Tech in a Final Four rematch on November 30 at 8 p.m. CT as a part of the ACC/SEC Challenge.
The Tigers and Hokies met last season in the Final Four as LSU came from behind in the fourth quarter to clinch a spot in the national championship game. The Tigers trailed by nine to start the fourth quarter but outscored the Hokies by 16 in the final quarter to claim LSU’s first national championship game berth. LSU defeated Iowa two days later for the national championship.
LSU will enter the season with multiple players returning from the program’s first ever national championship team along with a talented list of newcomers that include the nation’s No. 1 rated recruiting class and the top two players from this year’s transfer portal.
Related video
Forward Angel Reese headlines LSU’s returners as the defending Most Outstanding Player from the Final Four. She set the NCAA record with 34 double-doubles throughout the season as a dominant scorer and rebounder. Reese led the SEC in both scoring (23.0 ppg) and rebounding (15.4 rpg).
Guard Flau’jae Johnson is another returning starter for the Tigers who earned SEC Freshman of the Year. In her first year of college basketball, Johnson averaged 11.0 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game. Guard Kateri Poole started in LSU’s final five games throughout the championship run, bringing a defensive physicality to the court while having a knack to knock down big shots for the Tigers.
LSU will also bring back contributors like forward Sa’Myah Smith who was named to the SEC All-Freshman and guard Last-Tear Poa. Both Smith and Sa’Myah played critical and productive minutes off the bench in the national championship win over Iowa.
The Tigers top-rated incoming freshmen class is headlined by guard Mikaylah Williams who was named the 2023 Morgan Wooten National Player of the Year as the top high school player. Forward Aalyah Del Rosario, the nation’s No. 7 rated player, played in the McDonald’s All-American game with Williams and the Tigers also bring in freshmen guard Angelica Velez who was named Tennessee’s Division II-A Miss Basketball and guard Janae Kent.
LSU was active in the transfer portal, adding guard Hailey Van Lith and forward Aneesah Morrow who were ranked No. 1 and 2, respectively, in ESPN’s transfer portal rankings. Van Lith averaged 19.7 points, 4.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds last season, earning AP All-America honorable mention honors while leading Louisville to the Elite Eight. Van Lith and Iowa’s Caitlin Clark are the only two players in the country who averaged at least 19 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists throughout the year. Morrow was a lethal scorer (24.7 ppg) and rebounder (12.2 rpg) at DePaul. Her and Reese were the only two players in the country to rank inside the top 10 in the nation in both scoring and rebounding.
