Adjusting to Our New Normal in 4th Grade

By: Mrs. Davis

As teachers and students adjust to our new “normal”, 4th graders have begun the year with love and resilience. In Mrs. Davis’ and Mrs. Allen’s class we have started the year exploring how incredible our Creator’s love is for us. Our deep hope is that our students will know how deeply loved they are by God and learn to walk closer to Him, growing as learners and as His children. Like in any year, we start our mornings in quiet time with the Lord, exploring scripture and spending time reflecting in our morning journals. As in any year, we are delving into our curriculum, jumping into math, reading, writing and our other content areas. Not like in any year, we have spent time learning new routines. What does learning look like while staying six feet apart? What does transitioning look like, staying six feet apart? How do we adjust to wearing a mask all day? How do we utilize our two classrooms and transition between them? Our second space is what was the computer lab. We have transformed it into a welcoming learning space where students use baskets instead of cubbies and coat hooks for all their materials. On Fridays we disinfect and trade spaces, so that all learners can experience both spaces. With so many new adjustments it has been a joy to see 4th graders stepping into it with calm and resilience, reminding us that it is okay to not get it perfect. We are doing it together, we are doing it in-person, and we are doing it with purpose.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May His face shine upon you as you also, continue to adjust to the many new norms of our world, always remembering that our God is steadfast!   -Kati Davis

“How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.” Psalm 36:7

A Note from the Principal
Dear Families,

As we journey forward and face the possibility of school days that require asynchronous (independent) learning at home, your teachers will be sending you a grade level resource packet this week. Your student will be asked to use this resource on asynchronous (independent) learning days at home, while transitioning to synchronous learning (learning with the classroom teacher).

The resource packet will be full of fun, engaging, grade-level appropriate learning activities that your student will be asked to complete. It will provide supplemental learning while conditions permit your student and classmates from learning together in the classroom on asynchronous school days.

This packet is an asynchronous-learning-do-at-home resource and the assignments and activities within it should not be completed by your student until directed to do so by your classroom teacher. Completion of assigned activities will be required, collected by the classroom teacher, and graded in a way that will be communicated to you by the teacher.

The packet will include a variety of learning activities; some will require Internet access, others will not. The packet will be available on your teacher’s OneNote as well. If you have questions about how to access OneNote, please check with your child's teacher.

However, we suggest, in case of a power outage or lack of technology, that you print the packet and keep in a safe place. You may also want to download the packet and save it to your computer. That way, regardless of the situation, you will have the printed packet of resources that do not require internet, ready to use and, if you do have power, you can find it on OneNote or on your downloaded copy.

4th-6th grade Families, Only:
It is important to note, that if/when in person school is changed to at home learning for any length of time, regular assignments and project due dates that have been established in class, entered in planners, placed on Renweb, or shared in the classroom newsletter will still be intact, followed, and expected. Teachers will make every effort to keep you informed, reiterate expectations, and even possibly adjust due dates. With the recognition that some families may not have access to power/email, the understanding should be that all due dates remain, however, flexibility will certainly be shown in these circumstances.

If you have any questions, please connect with your classroom teacher or me. We are happy to help! Thank you for your partnership during this unique school year.

May His favor be upon you and His peace within you,

~Mrs. Vicki Britton, Principal
Preschool News
You may or may not know our wonderful preschool program is open until 3pm! We are excited to serve our community by offering extended hours. The option is open for all pre-kindergarten students and can be very flexible. Parents may use just once, for an hour, or all five school days till 3pm. Extended Day is filled with learning, wonder, and joy as we learn God’s creation through STEAM projects. Mrs. Lowe began the school year with learning opportunities focusing on ramps. If you're interested in this preschool extended day opportunity, please check with your child's teacher.

Dear Parents,

This week we have two opportunities to gather COVID style, via WebEx. In our first PTF Gathering for this school year, Devon Woodard, our school counselor, will discuss the topic of anxiety and what we can do to help children cope with anxiety. She will also share our new curriculum, Second Step. Our Principal, Vicki Britton, will also be present to visit with you and answer questions you might have during the last 15 minutes of the session.

Below you will find the WebEx link. We hope you can join! PTF is a great way to get to know other parents and learn more about what is happening at Three Points. We will record our sessions so if you are unable to attend.

CAMPUS REMINDERS

  • Kindergarten families that continue to walk their students to class, please use the Busser/Walker Fever Check Station that is by the big cedar tree near the Main Office.

  • We are seeing so many fun, colorful, and carefully worn masks on campus! Great job, to your students for wearing their masks as required. Please remember that gaiters (see picture to the left) and bandanas are not permitted. Children must have masks that fit securely over the nose and under the chin.

Thank you to all parents & guardians who participated in our Back to School Night last week! It was wonderful to "see" you! We really appreciate you setting aside time to learn more about Three Points & your child's class this year.
We are looking forward to a great year!
