Spectrum Community Services invited Community Champions to participate in the National #SaveLunch campaign
Last week, our own Chamber President/CEO James Cooper, Mayor Karla Brown, Councilmembers Valerie Arkin and Jack Balch delivered nutritious meals and visited with some of Pleasanton's senior citizens.
National #SaveLunch efforts in March will commemorate the historic day in March of 1972 when the Older Americans Act was amended to include a nutrition program for Americans 60 years and older. More than 50 years later, 12 million older Americans are still threatened by or experience hunger, and one in three seniors feels lonely. That is why Meals on Wheels programs from across the country are joining forces to raise awareness and support to ensure we can continue to address food insecurity and malnutrition, combat social isolation, enable independence and improve health for decades to come.
In 2023:
- 518 seniors served (81 was the median age of our Meals on Wheels clients)
- 69,271 meals delivered
- 1,200 shelf stable meals distributed
- 287 days of service
- 173 total volunteers (9,491 total volunteer hours)
- 5,312 gallons of milk served
- 90,000 pieces of fresh fruit served
If you are interested in volunteering, donating, or want more information, visit Spectrum Community Services

City Survey: Your input is important to us
The City of Pleasanton is committed to providing public services and facilities that help maintain our high quality of life. Every day, City employees work hard to support safe neighborhoods, quality streets and roads, attractive parks, recreation venues and programs, vibrant arts and cultural opportunities, and more.
However, our city is facing tough choices in the near future. We want to hear from YOU before important decisions are made.
The City of Pleasanton is exploring options to address these challenges responsibly and with community support. No decisions have been made yet, but one option under consideration is to ask voters to consider authorizing a modest increase to the local sales tax to help close the budget gap. Passing such a measure won’t solve all our problems, but it will help.
Join the conversation – complete our survey at online or email us your input at PleasantonListens@cityofpleasantonca.gov.
