#FrugalFebruary

Sure, Valentine's Day is great — who doesn't love good chocolate and the perfect excuse to roll with our reddest red lipstick? But this year we're most looking forward to the year's shortest month because of a little movement called #FrugalFebruary. Frugal February offers us the perfect opportunity to rein in our spending and take a "dollar detox," so to speak. The goal for the month is to spend as little as possible (on non-essentials like clothing, entertainment, pretty much anything “new”) and save as much as we can. Think of it as dry January, but for your wallet.
Scam Alert!
We have received word of a new scam going around social media sites regarding Bitcoin purchases. When a person replies, they are contacted by an agent (who is actually a scammer). The agent asks for their online banking username and password to process the investment.

THIS IS A SCAM. For any legitimate purchase, the only payment information needed would be your payment source such as a debit or credit card number or 14 digit checking account number. They would NEVER need your online banking username and password.

Do not provide your user name or password to anyone else. These must remain confidential in order to protect your finances.

America Saves Week is Feb. 22-26, 2021
America Saves Week is almost here! Each year we encourage our community to dedicate this week to pause and do a financial check-in, and this year is no different.

Chances are that you are someone you love has experienced a loss of income since the onset of Covid-19 in America— so what better time to take this week to get a clear view of your finances, set your financial goals, and make a plan to achieve them?

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County offers a number of free online classes during this special week. Find out more about taking the America Saves Pledge, contests, and classes!

Positively Living Podcasts
In addition to lots of presentations and coaching, Lisa Zawrotny started her new podcast last June. She would like to share two particular episodes with all of you.

The most recent is Episode 37 on Estate Organizing. It’s about having the difficult conversations with family to prepare ahead of time.

The other episode from last spring is about motherhood and money, specifically how women perceive and handle money. This ties in to the Women’s Financial Conference she attended in 2019.
