4-H volunteer training

In honor of our 4-H volunteers and their continuous dedication to youth In Monroe County, the 4-H team will be offering volunteers the opportunity to discuss youth mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through a panel discussion with mental health care professionals volunteers will be able to ask questions and have open discussion around the topic.

Produced in New York Training
Join 4-H staff and volunteers on Wednesday, February 17 at 10 AM to learn more about the 4-H Produced in New York Event.

The ‘Produced in New York’ (PiNY) program is designed to showcase the wide variety and use of agricultural products grown or produced in New York State. PiNY is a marvelous opportunity for youth, ages 5 to 18 years of age, to demonstrate their food preparation skills while promoting a tasty recipe featuring New York State food products.

During the PiNY program, individual 4-H members do a “silent demonstration” concurrently with at least one other presenter. The PiNY experience helps younger 4-H’ers feel more comfortable presenting to an audience and provides older youth with the opportunity to tackle more complicated recipes. It helps youth develop their skills and knowledge of food prep and presentation and challenges youth to create an original recipe using NYS agricultural products. It builds life skills including organization, responsibility, and flexibility.

NYSDEC Day-Old Pheasant Chick Program
Pheasant chicks are available at no cost to participants who are able to provide a brooding facility, a covered outdoor rearing pen, and an adequate release site. Approved applicants receive the day-old chicks in April, May, or June.

All pheasant release sites must be approved in advance by DEC and must be open for public pheasant hunting opportunities. More info on the DEC program may be found here.

The Monroe County 4-H Program is proud to offer the chick program to both 4-H and non-4-H families. For more info regarding 4-H in Monroe County, please contact Susan Coyle at smc226@cornell.edu.

WELCOME 4-H SPRING INTERNS!
Sanya Jamal
Hi! I'm Sanya and I am interning with Cornell Cooperative this semester.

After graduating, I hope to work for a company called AMCHP (Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs). It's an organization that aims to improve the lives of women, children, and the youth by providing public health education and screening services. I would love to work as a policy analyst for the organization.

Outside of work I enjoy reading, traveling, and trying out new recipes!
Edward (Teddy) Dreeson
My name is Edward Dreeson, and I’m thrilled to be a part of the 4-H organization here at Cornell Cooperative Extension in Monroe County.

I am currently a student at SUNY Brockport and will be finishing up my internship through CCE Monroe this semester by learning how to give back to our surrounding communities.

I love getting outdoors and spending time with my family, friends and pets.

After my internship I plan on pursuing either a graduate’s degree or stepping out into the working world as a member of the public health society here in Rochester, NY.
