Sparks Club Presents: Korean Culture Camp Day
Join the Sparks Club at the Wegman Lodge to explore Korean culture with a day of hands-on activities! Eat, create, dance, play games, and have a blast with us on Wednesday, February 22nd from 10:30am-3:30pm.

Monroe County 4-H Public Presentations
The Public Presentations Program is one of 4-H’s most beneficial and rewarding experiences. It provides a unique opportunity to develop a positive self-concept and poise, gain self-confidence before a group, learn to express ideas clearly, respond spontaneously to questions, and gain subject matter knowledge. This year, Monroe County 4-H Public Presentations will be held at the Irondequoit Library at 6pm on Wednesday, February 22nd and Monday, February 27th. Please register to let us know you're coming by Friday, February 17th.

4-H Pheasant Project Informational Night on Zoom
|
|
Do you love animals? How about raising day old pheasant chicks!? Join Chenango County 4-H for an informational zoom session to learn about what is required to raise pheasants and how you can do it!
NYS DEC game farm manager, Evan Wills, will teach about the proper care for pheasant chicks to adult birds. He will also discuss what supplies and equipment are needed and answer your questions about pheasants.

Agricultural Literacy Week 2023
|
In celebration of New York agriculture, volunteers
throughout the state will read a book with an agricultural theme to second graders during Agricultural Literacy Week on March 20-24th.
If you would like to volunteer to read to a local 2nd grade class, please contact the 4-H Office at monroe4H@cornell.edu by Friday, March 10th.

Volunteer Training Opportunity: Igniting Youth Sparks
|
|
|
Network with 4-H volunteers from all over the Northeast Region and learn how to be a champion for youth while they transform their interests into purpose and direction.
This workshop meets on Zoom on February 15th, 6-8pm.
Whether you're an event volunteer, a 4-H parent, a club leader, or share your skills and time with us in another way, we would encourage you to come!

8th Graders Get Hands-On with Vermiculture
|

8th grade students at Bishop Kearney harnessed their curiosity for hands-on learning about soil, composting, and worms with 4-H!

Sewing Sparks Club Creates Aprons
|
|
The Sewing Sparks club gathered in full force to make aprons! They used paper patterns as guides to pin, cut, and sew multiple layers of fabric and attach several pieces to create the final product.

4-H Takes Wool Felting to School
|
|
|
After reading about the journey of a sheep's wool from sheep to loom, students at School #33 tried their hand at felting alpaca fleece into a pom-pom sized ball. It's a lot tougher than it looks, but they had a blast!

Produced in New York and "Art"cuterie Board Challenge
Last Saturday, 4-H youth created and presented dairy themed Produced in New York recipes and beautiful “Art”-cuterie boards! Thank you to our volunteers, Donald and Theresa, and to the Strong Museum and Cabot Cheese for their support.

4-H Outdoor Adventures Winterfest
|
|
The Cornell Youth in Nature and Outdoor Education Program Work Team is thrilled to announce its next camping program, Outdoor Adventures Weekend – Winterfest. This weekend long event will be packed with outdoor fun of snowshoeing, cross country skiing, skijoring demonstration, and so much more! The event will end with a friendly Winter Olympic competition. This event is being held at Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center in eastern Oswego County from 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 17th to 12:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19th, 2023. The facility is in the foothills of the Tug Hill and is famous for its snow, so the weekend will be spent mostly outdoors enjoying the snow and the woodlands.
Registration for this event is limited to 50 people. Snowshoes will be loaned out for this event, as well as a limited number of cross country skis and shoes of varying sizes. The cost to attend Outdoor Adventures Weekend is $40 per 4-Her – there is no fee for chaperones.

New York State Jersey Cattle Club offers Betsy's Calf Scholarship
In memory of Betsy (Luchsinger) Czadzeck, a scholarship of up to $1000 will be awarded to a deserving youth between the ages of 8 and 16 (as of January 1 of the current year) to purchase a registered jersey calf. Preference is given to youth that live in New York state and do not currently own a jersey.

Black Pride Artist study with Simmi Wallace
Celebrate Black Pride through an artist study in the style of Alma Thomas' works, with artist Simmi Wallace! This free event is ideal for youth ages 5-12, and takes place at the central library on Saturday, February 4th from 2-3pm.

Pirate Toy Fund Aims for Largest Snowball Fight on Earth
The Pirate Toy Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to distributing toys year round to children in need, is hosting an official attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the world's largest snowball fight, complete with live music, food trucks, snowman building, and more. Join in on Saturday, February 18th, at Archer Road Field in Chili, starting at 11am!
