A Message from County Executive

Adam J. Bello:

"Dear Friends: I hope you are enjoying the dog days of summer, as it won’t be long before the kids go back to school and the leaves start to change! We’ve celebrated some important milestones around the County lately, from the 75th anniversary of the George Eastman Museum to the opening of the new Palliative Care and Hospice Unit at Monroe Community Hospital. We’re proud of the work MCH does to care for our neighbors with complex and chronic conditions. It’s not too late to add a visit to one of our County parks sometime soon – we had a record 400+ neighbors come out to watch “Madagascar” at the Seneca Park Zoo a few weeks ago, part of our Movies in the Park series! You can read more about County happenings below. Best wishes for a safe and healthy August!"

What's New

The Frederick Douglass Observatory at the Airport

What a powerful way to welcome visitors to Rochester! This special area at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport serves as a reminder that airports do more than connect people to their destinations—they also connect us to our past and our heritage.

In Case You Missed It

RTS Shuttle to the VA Clinic

To help veterans in need of transportation to the VA Clinic on Calkins Road, we worked with RTS - Regional Transit Service & RTS Transit Center to launch a shuttle service that will run on a continuous loop every 20 minutes between the VA Clinic and Marketplace Mall.

AIRA ASL Smartphone App

Communication should never be a barrier to travel. The Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport now offers live, on-demand ASL interpretation through the AIRA ASL app — ensuring that deaf and hard-of-hearing travelers can get the support they need.

Expanding Language Access in County Buildings

Monroe County is investing $200,000 in ARPA funds to provide iPads with access to over 350 languages, ensuring residents can communicate clearly and in real time at county facilities. These iPads will be available in public-facing offices, including the County Clerk’s Office, the DMV, the Veterans Service Agency, and more.

Increasing Digital Training and Home Wifi Access

Internet access isn’t a luxury — it’s a necessity! That’s why we invested ARPA funding for the Monroe County Library System’s Wired for Opportunity program to expand free Wi-Fi, MiFi devices, tech training, and added new solar-powered Wi-Fi and charging stations in public spaces across Monroe County.

In The Community

Monroe County Sheriff's Marine Unit

From patrolling busy boating areas to responding to emergencies and enforcing safety regulations, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit works tirelessly to protect everyone on our waterways. It was incredible to see their professionalism, precision, and preparedness firsthand during a ride along on Lake Ontario.

Monroe County has invested in innovative programming that connects our local veterans with career training, mental health care, and peer support – just to name a few – ensuring no one is left behind. We were pleased to welcome Viviana DeCohen, NYS Commissioner of Veterans’ Services, to Monroe County to showcase the services we offer.

Celebrating PRIDE!

We celebrated Pride here in Monroe County during July and enthusiastically flew the Pride Progress flag to show our support of and commitment to our LGBTQIA+ friends and neighbors.
