A Message from County Executive

Adam J. Bello:

Dear Friends:

The holiday season is the perfect time to recognize all we have to be thankful for. November gave us the opportunity to thank our local veterans, which we did at the 4th annual Veteran’s Day Parade, as well as the generosity of our neighbors, which we saw at the community food drive we sponsored to assist those impacted by the delay in SNAP benefits. It’s also the time to start thinking about the responsibilities of the New Year, and we hope you will put MonroeAlert on your list of things to do – our new emergency alert system will make sure you get notified of emergencies and incidents that may directly impact you, using the communications platform you choose. You can sign up now at www.monroecounty.gov/monroealert. And if you are not yet in the holiday spirit, I encourage you to join us for one of our Holiday Concerts at the County Office Building – the student performances from schools around the County are open to the public and are a great way to celebrate the season – see the calendar below.

All the best to you and your families for a safe and happy holiday season.

What's New

Sign Up for Emergency Notifications with MonroeAlert

MonroeAlert is a new county-wide system that keeps residents informed via a text message, email, phone call or the mobile app. When roads close, a water main breaks, or public safety incidents occur, residents no longer need to search social media for accurate updates. MonroeAlert provides clear, unified information from the County and the City so people know what’s happening and what to do.

In Case You Missed It

Ernie Clement Receives a Key to the County

Brighton’s Ernie Clement was home for the holiday and met with fans after a record-setting season with the Toronto Blue Jays. He is the first local area MLB player to appear in the World Series since 1954. It was an honor to celebrate his achievements and present him with a Key to the County!

Affordable Housing in Upper Falls

We’re not just breaking ground — we’re building opportunity. With First Genesis and our partners, we’re using ARPA funds to create 22 new affordable homes in Upper Falls — helping Rochester families achieve homeownership, build equity and strengthen our neighborhoods.

2024 Childhood Lead Testing And Exposure Data

The Monroe County Department of Public Health recently reported that screening for childhood lead poisoning cases increased by 6% in 2024 compared to 2023. Find out how parents and caregivers can help protect children at home by taking a few key steps to reduce the risk of lead exposure.

Proposed 2026 County Budget

The roughly $1.5 billion proposal is a disciplined financial plan that prioritizes fiscal stability, protects taxpayers, and invests in public safety and public health initiatives despite growing uncertainty in federal funding. It also continues my administration’s record of lowering the property tax rate, which is once again the lowest in the County’s recorded history.

In The Community

For 10 years, 24-hour Spanish radio station PODER 97.1 has served a critical role in Monroe County, expanding access and opportunities for our Latino community. During Giving Tuesday, I joined Mayor Evans to celebrate their impact and discuss our partnership at their annual ROC the Day telethon.

Native American Heritage Month

This November, we honored the vibrant cultures and enduring contributions of Indigenous peoples in our community, including the Haudenosaunee. We are grateful for the stewardship, traditions, and stories that continue to shape our shared future.

Veterans Day Parade

Thanks to everyone who came out to honor our veterans at the 4th Annual Veterans Day Parade! This event serves as a powerful tribute, bringing our community together to ensure the courage and sacrifice of our veterans are never forgotten.

Food Drive

Monroe County is a community that cares! That was evident at the Food Donation Drive earlier this month. Thanks to everyone who donated food, to all of the County and City employees who donated their time and to our community partners for helping to organize this critical event.
