PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
For the months of August and September, our school will be focusing on the character trait of inclusivity. This trait is essential to building our Montair community because it is a melding of kindness, empathy, understanding, and acceptance. We need our kids to push outside of their comfort zones to notice the classmate who doesn’t have someone to play with. We need them to accept defeat in a game gracefully, even if they were paired with students with less athletic ability. We need them to be interested in differences but to find commonalities with all kinds of kids. 

Our district has adopted a new Social Emotional Curriculum, Sanford Harmony that has inclusion and acceptance as its base. Each classroom will be using the materials included in the Sanford Harmony kits to structure regular opportunities for our kids to build relationships with a wide variety of peers. Our teachers have all been trained to utilize the various components in this program and are eager to work to build our students’ social emotional competencies.

Research shows that as people we all have biases; they are part of how we are wired. The documentary film, Bias : you’re human, you’re biased. Now what?, explores how unconscious bias defines relationships, workplaces, our justice system, and technology.

MONTAIR'S INCLUSION CLUB IS STARTING OFF WITH DYSLEXIA AWARENESS MONTH!

When:  Wednesday, September 4, 2019, from 1:10 - 2:10 pm
Where: TBD
Who:  All interested TK - 5th graders
What:   Dyslexia Awareness Month

We'll have kids sign in at the start of the meeting and check out with their parents at the end, so please come in to sign them out.
