One of our goals this year is to increase students’ feelings of connectedness to school. According to the California Healthy Kid Survey from last spring, 76% of our boys reported feeling a strong sense of connectedness to school where 88% of our girls reported this strong connection. The kinds of questions that generated this score were as follows: “Do you feel close to people at school?”, “Are you happy to be at this school?”, “Do you feel like you are a part of this school?”, “Do teachers treat you fairly?”, and “Do you feel safe at this school.” For those of you interested in reading the complete report for the CHKS, you can
. Every year, our School Site Council reviews the data in this report, along with attendance and behavior data from Montair and we come up with action items to improve the feelings of connectedness to our school. We are hopeful that with the introduction of the Sanford Harmony Social Emotional Curriculum, our kids will establish more meaningful connections to one another and to the staff. As a site, we are trying to create our own survey that we can give to our students a couple of times per year, giving us ongoing formative data on how kids are feeling at school and about school. The shortcoming of the CHKS is that it is administered to 4th and 5th graders one time per year.
On a different note, last week, our entire school took a moment to honor our first responders in remembrance of 9-11. Afterward, I received a flyer about an essay contest for students in the San Ramon Valley that I wanted to share with you. If you have a child 1-5th grade, they can enter this essay content by sharing their thoughts. See
this flyer
for details.
Here’s to another great week of learning together,

The fair will also be open during the Montair Fall Carnival on Sunday, October 6th from noon - 4pm.
It is a super fun event and the kids absolutely love it. As always, your help is very much appreciated. We truly can't do it without you.
