Dear Montair Families,
I want to thank our team of dedicated parents who work so hard to keep the Montair community connected during this time. I’d like to send a big shout out to our Run Club organizers Stephen Dunphy and Matt Alberti for putting together a special time for Run for Education! I want to thank Jamey Fedun and the entire PTA board for getting yearbooks out to families, doing the donut drive through, and movie night. I also want to share my gratitude for Natasha Fitzgibbon and the Foundation team for their tireless efforts in raising funds to support the academic and social-emotional programs for our students.
The second half of October is full of safety centered activity! This Thursday, October 15th is the Great Shake Out. At about 10:20, we will call out for our students to participate in earthquake safety activities including an earthquake drill for you at home. You can get more information about earthquake preparedness at home from this link HERE. Our Red Ribbon Week chair has several festivities planned for the week of October 26-30th. Stay safe and stay healthy!
We have school photos scheduled for October 19th & 20th. Click HERE for the schedule. Please visit www.apvisions.com and Enter Code "MONTF20" to get information about ordering.
What Will Picture Day Look Like?
Our New “Drive Thru” Setup!
- Pull into the school parking lot up to the Picture Day canopies. Your child gets out of the car, wearing a mask, and checks in at the table with Last Name and Grade.
- Parent pull the car forward past the canopies to the pick up area.
- Student will remove their mask when directed by photographer and take their portrait.
- Student will return to car as soon as their portrait is done.
-
If you have a young child (TK-1st grade), please park your car and walk your child to the check in table and assist as needed with your child’s portrait. We ask that no more than one person accompany the child to assist in social distancing and safety protocols.
Our students logged in 5,954 reading minutes during the month of September! We also had 10 students submit book commercials. These superstars will get little certificates and treat with their materials this week. HERE is the link to submit October book recommendations. October’s genre of the month is Mystery. HERE’s a link for the top 50 kids’ mystery books; perhaps one of these titles will be an enticing read for your whole family. Happy Reading!!!
Warm Regards,
Elizabeth Lyons, Ed.D.
Principal

PTA Legislative Advocacy October Focus: Voting
|
October is a busy advocacy month for our PTA. As a trusted, non-partisan partner at our school, the Montair PTA has some important November 2020 election based deadlines and information to share with you.
- Register to Vote or Update your Voter Registration
- The voter registration deadline is October 19 this year.
-
Make time now to register to vote at RegisterToVote.ca.gov.
-
If you’ve moved or changed your name - update your voter registration online.
- Mail-in-Ballots
- This year, every registered Californian will automatically receive a Mail-in-Ballot at the address they are registered to vote. An Executive Order from Governor Newsom in May allows for this.
-
Californians registered to vote start receiving their mail-in-ballots in the first weeks of October. If others in your community received theirs, but you don’t, check your voter status to make sure that your information is correct.
-
This year, California voters can sign up to be notified where their mail-in-ballot is, and its status, every step of the way. A voter who has signed up will receive notices from their county elections official regarding the status of the voter's vote-by-mail. Sign-up at WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov to receive an automatic email, SMS (text), or voice call notifications about your ballot.
- PTA members should also know that the California State PTA has taken positions on the following November 2020 Ballot Measures:
- SUPPORT - Proposition 15: California Schools and Local Communities Funding Act This initiative would require that commercial and industrial real estate property worth $3 million or more be taxed on current market value, raising as much as $11.5 billion in additional funding for schools and other local governments. It protects all homeowners and renters by maintaining tax protections for ALL residential property. This money would be allocated to schools (40%) and other local governments (60%). Click here for detailed information about this ballot measure.
-
SUPPORT- Proposition 16: Repeal Proposition 209 – Restore Affirmative Action. This constitutional amendment, placed on the November 2020 statewide ballot by the legislature, asks the voters of California to vote on permitting the use of race, gender, and ethnic diversity as factors (but not decisive factors) in education including college admissions, government hiring, and government contracting. Click here for detailed information about this ballot measure.
-
NEUTRAL - Proposition 19: Changes Certain Property Tax Rules. California State PTA has taken a neutral position on Prop 19, a legislative constitutional amendment that changes certain Property Tax Rules. See the California State PTA Study Committee Report here
PTA encourages its members to stay informed and to research issues and candidates before voting.
