As we look ahead to next week, I would like to discuss Halloween. On Wednesday, October 31st, school will be on an adjusted minimum day schedule. That means that 1-5 graders attend 8:20-12:10. AM kinders and TK attend 8:10- 10:40. PM kinders officially attend 9:40-12:10. The trick for this day is that our parade is held first thing in the morning, at 8:30am. We have invited all of our PM kiddos and their families to join us for the parade at 8:30, and then they can begin their PM day at 9:40. PM teachers will share details of where to meet up.
Some things to keep in mind:
Parking is a challenge on a normal day at Montair. Many surrounding streets have “no parking” signs posted during school hours. With many families wishing to participate in the fun, we will need to be creative to find parking solutions. Last year, families parked at the Danville Railroad Museum parking lot at the corner of Prospect and Railroad avenue and found it to be a great solution. From there it is a quick walk down Quinterra to Montair.

Please do not park in the Danville Women’s Club lot. They will tow.
The playground installation is scheduled to begin the week of Oct. 27th. We may have to reroute our parade from past routes. Please be flexible and follow signs and cones that mark off areas.
The SRVHS band will join us at 8:30 to accompany the parade. Their bus will be parking along Esther in a coned off area. Please respect the cone-zone.
Children cannot bring weapons of any kind as part of their costume. Masks can only be worn during the parade.
Please do not bring your dogs to the parade, even if they have a great costume. There are just too many people on campus and the school is not open to pets during school hours. Due to the sheer number of people on campus, signing in is not necessary for viewing the parade. If afterward, you are working in the class at a party, please sign in at the office before entering the classroom.
We know that this day is a favorite for our kids. Many have been talking about their costumes since the first of October. If we all work together, keep our senses of humor and patience, this day will special for all.
There IS school on Thursday, November 1st. We expect the kids to be a bit exhausted and fueled with sugar and will plan our lessons and activities accordingly. There is no school on Friday, November 2nd. Our staff will be working with a district behaviorist for part of the day, learning how to help kids who are showing anxiety and how to deal with those showing defiance. Part of the day, we will be learning more about Dreambox. After school on the 31st, our staff will be working with Firefighter George learning hands only CPR and first aid.
Here’s to a great week of learning and having fun together!
