PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
I hope many of you were able to join us yesterday for the ribbon cutting ceremony to launch our new play structure and swing set. Thank you parents and family members who donated through Foundation and through our APEX run last year. This new equipment is accessible to all of our students and will be enjoyed by hundreds of students for years to come.

Our Character Trait of the Month for November was Gratitude and our Climate Committee has decided to extend that study into December to allow us to more fully explore how to develop this trait in ourselves. We are using the book, Good People Everywhere , by Lynea Gillen to help us study this trait. I have read several articles connecting gratitude to happiness. Here is an article for how to raise grateful kids . One item that caught my eye is for us to make giving and volunteering a habit. At Montair, we try to find ways for our kids to know that they are making a difference in the world. In September, we collected for Coins for a Cure to help fight Juvenile Diabetes. We have already created sandwiches for local homeless shelters with Pledge to Humanity. We are planning a Montair Gives Back night later this year. Our Montair school is currently collecting new toys to give to our sister school in Antioch. Our leadership students will travel to Mission School on December 17th to deliver the toys collected for a community that may not have the same resources we have. All of these activities have many benefits. Our children learn about giving and gratitude. Our community expands to include more people from different backgrounds and the world becomes that much better.

I am grateful.

Let’s make this holiday season extra special for the students of Mission Elementary We will be collecting new, unwrapped toys now through December 12th . Please place your donation in the bins by the front office. Thank you for supporting our sister school!

Sister School: Mission Elementary
Montair is excited to be participating in the San Ramon Valley Council of PTA’s Sister School program again this year. The Sister School philanthropic program benefits the students of our district by fostering civic responsibility, enhancing community engagement, promoting volunteerism and by teaching the joy of helping others. This is accomplished by partnering each school in our district with a school in a neighboring disadvantaged area of the East Bay.

This year we have the honor of supporting Mission Elementary school. Mission is a Title One school of about 600 TK-5th graders located in Antioch. They have a welcoming campus, dedicated teachers and students who are eager to learn- very much a sister to Montair! We will hold 2 collection drives for the students of Mission, one now and one in the spring. Please watch for information regarding these drives, and thank you in advance for your generosity!
