We are in the home stretch, approaching our winter break. The mountains are covered with snow. Relatives are flying into town. And school is still in session, with our teachers working hard to help our kids make progress as we end the semester. I wanted to remind families that attendance is essential for us to work with the students. Our teachers are still teaching math, reading, writing, science, and social studies every week. They have small groups formed to give extra support to some and enrichment materials to others. We often teach in collaborative groups, with students discussing, questioning, and building on each other’s input. These educational experiences are not replicated with a packet of work in an independent study contract. The rich, personalized instruction our children receive, depends on their being here at school. Thank you to those of you waiting to schedule your holidays until after Dec 20. Your children will be the stronger for it.
