PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
This month our Character Trait is KINDNESS. We are kicking off our study of kindness with Words Matter Week. Our staff welcomed the kids out front yesterday with a “Kindness tunnel,” letting them know we believe in them and their power to do good in the world. We will be writing thank you notes, performing acts of kindness with our Kindness Challenge, and taking pledges to be more kind to one another. Our book of the month on kindness is Ordinary Mary’s Extraordinary Deed. I love this book because it is a sweet story about how each of us can make a significant difference with just a small act of kindness. The book plays off the notion of paying it forward and how if everyone who receives a kindness, in turn is kind to 5 more people, the world can change.

Please check out last Friday’s MT TV broadcas t to get the latest from Student Leadership.

Here’s to another great week of learning together!

Every child has the right to learn in a safe environment. Soul Shoppe’s mission is to create big-hearted bully-free schools where every child is "free to be" themselves, where kids show empathy and get along. To reach this goal, Soul Shoppe delivers a year-round program to Montair students and teachers that make learning and even problem-solving fun!

For our parent evening, a Soul Shoppe facilitator will share what you can do to handle bullying and teasing when they happen to (or from) your children, and how you can use the program tools at home! We will share what we teach the children at our school and some very effective secret parent tips to ensure that your home and school are places where children actively contribute to a positive environment, and can independently resolve conflicts.

The Parent Night will focus on some of the following:
  • Why kids take feelings out on each other, and how to help them stop themselves and each other.
  • How to solve conflicts at home respectfully and effectively.
  • Simple things you can do each day to help your children behave better and feel more connected to you.
  • How to reinforce positive lessons your child is learning in Soul Shoppe at home.
  • Basics for having more powerful relationships with your spouse/partner, children, boss, peers, friends... Everyone!
