PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
This week, Wednesday, February 13th , will be the l ast day for the online auction . We have some very exciting items to bid on, everything from golf outings to hiking dates with the principal. There are class art projects and deals at local restaurants. There are music lessons and spaces at our soon to be sold out, CAMP MONTAIR. Do remember that the proceeds from everything you purchase go to the programs that make Montair so special.

We are also days away from the cut off to purchase tickets to the Live Auction Event-- A Night at the Derby. This year, we have a big turn out of staff members attending the Auction Party. I know that the staff members always look forward to seeing “their” parents at the event. We are always so busy, we appreciate the chance to spend time together, supporting the many special programs Foundation has been able to support this year.

Please remember, that the money generated at this fun event, goes directly to pay for:

Every child has the right to learn in a safe environment. Soul Shoppe’s mission is to create big-hearted bully-free schools where every child is "free to be" themselves, where kids show empathy and get along. To reach this goal, Soul Shoppe delivers a year-round program to Montair students and teachers that make learning and even problem-solving fun!

For our parent evening, a Soul Shoppe facilitator will share what you can do to handle bullying and teasing when they happen to (or from) your children, and how you can use the program tools at home! We will share what we teach the children at our school and some very effective secret parent tips to ensure that your home and school are places where children actively contribute to a positive environment, and can independently resolve conflicts.

The Parent Night will focus on some of the following:
  • Why kids take feelings out on each other, and how to help them stop themselves and each other.
  • How to solve conflicts at home respectfully and effectively.
  • Simple things you can do each day to help your children behave better and feel more connected to you.
  • How to reinforce positive lessons your child is learning in Soul Shoppe at home.
  • Basics for having more powerful relationships with your spouse/partner, children, boss, peers, friends... Everyone!

Survey to Assist with Developing Parent/Staff Education on E-Cigarettes/Vape Pens & Marijuana/Cannabis
This school year, the Contra Costa County Office of Education TUPE (Tobacco Use Prevention Education) program has received  increased requests for parent and staff education on the topics of e-cigarettes/vape pens and marijuana/cannabis.
While we provide comprehensive prevention and intervention programs and services for young people in our schools, we know that adults also want to learn more, especially on the evolving issues of e-cigarettes/vape pens and marijuana/cannabis. We want to ensure that everyone has access to accurate and relevant information.
We are asking for your input to assist us with determining what information and resources are most critical for us to gather, develop, and share.  Respond online at:   https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/adulted2019
There are no right or wrong answers and your responses are confidential. Thank you for taking the time to respond!
