PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend together. Our entire SRVUSD staff converged on Dougherty Valley High School last Friday for a district wide day of learning. It was fabulous to gather with colleagues from across the district with this common goal. Most of the sessions were taught by SRVUSD teachers and staff, sharing their knowledge and expertise with others. I love this model of teachers teaching teachers. We even had 6 staff members from Montair leading the learning at different breakout sessions. Participants had the choice of three different sessions with selections starting at 8:15 and going until 3pm. Selections ranged from using assessment data to track progress to doing yoga with students to build mindfulness. We had choices focused on math, science, writing, reading, equity, data analysis, intervention strategies, note taking strategies, finding work/life balance and so much more. It was a wonderful day of learning and hopefully, our staff will share what they learned with your kids this week.

I am looking forward to seeing many of you at the Night at the Derby this Saturday. I know it will be a wonderful time and will serve to support the many programs we value here at Montair.

Here’s to another wonderful week of learning together!

In their book, The Self-Driven Child , the two offer a combination of cutting-edge brain science, the latest discoveries in behavioral therapy, and case studies drawn from the thousands of kids and teens Bill and Ned have helped over the years to teach you how to set your child on the real road to success. As parents, we can only drive our kids so far. At some point, they will have to take the wheel and map out their own path. But there is a lot you can do before then to help them tackle the road ahead with resilience and imagination.
